Wrapping Up 2018 – and Thanks to all our contributors and supporters
It is once again that time of year when we feverishly try to get everything off our to-do lists before closing for the festive season. While at the same time finding ourselves out and about caught up in the revelry of client or work end of year functions, and in our spare time attempting to create a calm and welcoming space in our homes for guests and relatives who are about to arrive…or at least that’s the story from my side!
Whatever you are up to, observing this festive season, working straight through or involving yourself in other pursuits, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all of our members for your continued support of CAANZ. For your attendance and participation in our events and activities around the state this year, your contribution to our forums, online discussions and for ‘Linking In’ with me or my team, to build engagement and hopefully derive greater value from your membership.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank our Regional and CAANZ Council and Board members and our Committees and Member Groups for your contribution and energy throughout the year, supporting all that we do. Most importantly, I would like to acknowledge the amazing Queensland CAANZ team for their commitment, passion and boundless energy throughout another enormously busy year and in the midst of significant change for the organisation, as we work to develop the strategic initiatives set for us by Rick Ellis, CEO and the Board – initiatives which we believe will have a great impact on the ways members will be able to communicate, engage and share knowledge with each other and build their vibrant community.
Here's to an exciting 2019, I look forward to catching up with you refreshed and raring to go when we re-open our doors following the break on 7 January 2019.
The IAG Conference at the Gold Coast, Queensland was held 21-23 November 2018 at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort. This year’s conference theme was “The 4 Ts of Finance: Technology, Talent, Training, Teamwork” and covered topics that challenge our delegates to update their knowledge, skills and expertise in finance, accounting and governance. The Topics covered the changing landscape of legislation, standards, processes and practices, as well as technology and performance management. The various presenters discussed how government addresses its financial needs across the short, medium and long term, and integrate economic, ecological and social goals into its planning processes.

Student Society Proposal Day
Recently, we hosted Student Societies from various Queensland universities in the Brisbane office to hear their pitch for sponsorship alongside 11 other organisations. We run this day to simplify the sponsorships process, allowing organisations to collect and review proposals all together, and view society presentations by executive members of each society back-to-back. The event is a fair and timely starting point for sponsorship discussions, and we encourage employers to use it to select which societies to have further conversations with post-event. The presentations were an excellent quality – making choosing which ones to engage with in 2019 difficult!
The CA ANZ Achiever Programme is run across Australia and New Zealand, employing a rigorous screening process to identify well-rounded, quality students currently studying business or accounting. The aim is to connect the best and brightest with employers like yourself offering paid internships – the Programme is great experience for future talent, but there are many benefits employers gain also! The 2018 Programme in Queensland saw 31 candidates placed into work experience across 17 organisations; a wonderful outcome for all involved.
Our flagship tertiary careers event, Employment Evening, is once again shaping up across Australia and New Zealand to be held in March 2019. In its 19th year in 2018 Employment Evening took place in six locations across Australia and New Zealand - Adelaide, Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and was attended by over 2,100 students and 155 employers.
