CA Essentials for Financial Accounting and reporting (FAR)

Course description:

In Financial Accounting and Reporting, you apply International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or local equivalents, and regulatory and ethical requirements to account for and report on a diverse range of business transactions and events.

This CA Essentials workshop held prior to subject commencement will prepare you for the Financial Accounting and Reporting subject in the CA Program, by focusing on the following key areas which are aligned to the subject topics:

  • Fundamentals of financial statement preparation (Chapter 1)
  • Practical application of common accounting standards (Chapter 2)
  • Presentation of consolidated financial statements (Chapter 3)

Learning outcomes

After attending the workshop and completing the workshop activities, you will be able to:

  • Apply International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) or other relevant standards to transactions and other events
  • Prepare general purpose financial statements, including consolidated financial statements, in accordance with IFRSs or other relevant national standards.

Course structure and format

CA Essentials is an optional 6.5 hour workshop for Term 3 scheduled on Saturday 22 June 2024.

The session will be run by one of our highly experienced facilitators.

CA Essentials for TAX 

Course description:

In Tax, you are introduced to the core knowledge and skills of tax required to provide advice and services for a range of transactions and events appropriate to the jurisdiction

This CA Essentials workshop held prior to subject commencement will prepare you for the Tax subject in the CA Program, by focusing on the following key areas which are aligned to the subject topics:

  • Researching and interpreting tax law
  • Understanding the key differences between tax and financial accounting (ie income, deductions, trading stock and depreciation)
  • Applying the income tax framework to calculate tax payable/(refundable) and taxable income/(loss)
  • Understanding the key taxation differences between the types of taxpayers (ie individuals, partnership, trusts and companies)
  • Applying the fundamentals of fringe benefits tax
  • Integrating tax knowledge and skills

Learning outcomes

After attending the workshop and completing the workshop activities, you will be able to:

  • Identify the sources of taxation law and the framework in which taxation is administered
  • Identify various types of taxation including income tax, consumption taxes, goods and services tax, taxes on capital and fringe benefits tax
  • Identify and apply the fundamentals of calculating the taxable income and tax payable for individuals and business entities.

CA Essentials is an optional 6.5 hour workshop ahead of Term 4, scheduled on Saturday 21 September 2024 (separate sessions will run for Australian Tax and New Zealand Tax).
