Recent Changes to CA Foundations
The CA Foundations program has recently changed. The CAFF9AU Taxation in Australia subject, previously offered through Deakin University, ceased in 2025. The new CA Foundations pathway now includes CAF306AU Tax and Business Law, which is a combined tax and commercial law subject. CAF306AU is not a Board approved unit in Australian taxation law or commercial law due to its nature as a brief introductory subject to prepare and transition candidates into the CA Program.
Completing two Board approved Australian taxation law subjects
To meet the ‘Australian taxation law course’ requirement, a member must complete two (2) Board approved Australian taxation law subjects.
The TPB has confirmed that completion of both CACC1503AU Core Tax Australia and CACC1508AU Advanced Tax Australia subjects together meets the Board approved Australian taxation law course and the TASA unit requirements. Provisional members can complete both these subjects as part of the CA Program, while full members can enrol in these subjects separately by contacting the CA ANZ Member Admissions Pathways team [email protected] with the subject line ‘Full member enrolment into CA Program tax subject’.
Members can also refer to the CACC1503AU Core Tax Australia subject outline, the CACC1508AU Advanced Tax Australia subject outline and the CA Program timetable for more information on these subjects.
CA Program Tax Australia subjects and modules are at an ‘advanced’ level
The CACC1503AU Core Tax Australia and CACC1508AU Advanced Tax Australia subjects in the CA Program are ‘Australian taxation law – Advanced’ subjects. Further, all Tax Australia modules completed as part of the CA Program since 2011 have been approved by the TPB as ‘Australian taxation law – Advanced’ subjects.
All Tax Australia modules completed as part of the CA Program since 2011 and the current CACC1503AU Core Tax Australia subject have been approved by the TPB as ‘TASA (Tax Agent)’ subjects.
CACC1508AU Advanced Tax is not a ‘TASA (Tax Agent)’ subject.
