After your outcome
Find out what to do after receiving your migration skills assessment outcome.
Understand your options after you receive your outcome, including reassessment, review, and how to stay connected with CA ANZ.
Reassessment requests
You can apply for a reassessment if:
- You have new evidence that was not available when you first applied
- You have completed additional courses or subjects to meet the required competency areas
- You have new English test results
- You have gained new qualifications or work experience
- You want to be assessed for a different occupation (ANZSCO code)
- You are moving from a provisional to a full skills assessment.
A valid English language test report must be included with your reassessment application.
Reassessment of Skilled Employment
You may request a reassessment of skilled employment only if you have already received a suitable qualification assessment outcome (previously referred to as a full or permanent skills assessment) from CA ANZ for the same occupation code. It is essential that the occupation code remains consistent between qualification and skilled employment assessments. Applications that do not meet this requirement will not be eligible for reassessment.
Validity of your application
- Your skills assessment outcome is valid for three years from the date it was issued.
- You can only apply for a reassessment if your original outcome is still valid.
- Reassessments do not extend the original expiry date.
- Once your outcome expires, you will need to submit a new application, which will be assessed against the current entry requirements.
Renewals after your outcome expires
- As reassessments are allowed within the three-year validity period, CA ANZ does not offer a renewal service.
- Once your outcome expires, you will need to submit a new application, which will be assessed against the current entry requirements.
Reissues
You can request a reissue of your outcome letter at any time. There is no fee for reissues.
Review of the decision (Internal Review)
If you believe a mistake was made in your outcome, you can request a review within 60 days of receiving your result.
- Your request must include clear reasons why you disagree with the decision.
- The review will be based only on the evidence submitted in your original application.
- A different or senior assessor will review your case.
If an error is found, we will:
- issue you with a revised suitable skills assessment outcome letter.
- update any internal and external system with the new outcome.
- refund your review fees
Note: You cannot submit new or updated documents as part of a review.
Skilled employment outcome review
- We will not accept altered employment reference letters at any stage after the initial application has been lodged and assessed.
- No additional evidence can be submitted as part of a review application. This includes amendments or additions to job descriptions or employment reference letters.
- If you wish to add a new period of employment, you must submit a reassessment application, provided your original skilled employment outcome is still valid.
Review fee
A fee applies to the review process. If the decision is overturned, the fee will be refunded.
External appeal
External appeals provide a final opportunity to challenge both the original assessment and the internal review outcome, where both have been assessed as not suitable.
An external appeal involves a thorough review of the decisions made during the original and internal review assessments.
The appeal will be undertaken by an independent assessor who was not the assessor of the original assessment.1
1 CA ANZ will determine the manner external appeals are conducted in alignment with the requirements set out in the Guiding Principles and Standards for Skilled Migration Assessing Authorities (The Guide). The Guide permits external appeals to be conducted in a section of the organisation not involved with skills assessments or by an external assessor with expertise in the relevant occupation, such as a practitioner, academic, or regulatory/professional body representative, whose primary role is not with the Assessing Authority.
You can request an external appeal within 60 days of receiving your internal review result.
- Your request must include clear reasons why you disagree with the decision.
- The appeal will be based only on the evidence submitted in your original and internal review applications.
If the external appeal is successful, we will:
- issue you with a revised suitable skills assessment outcome letter.
- update any internal and external system with the new outcome.
- refund your external appeal fees.
Note: You cannot submit new or updated documents as part of an external appeal.
The appeal outcome is final and not subject to further review.
Before you apply for reassessment, internal review or external appeal
- Log in to the Migration Skills Assessment portal to submit your request
- Make sure your original outcome is still valid
- Use the same email address you used in your original application
