Returning to full membership
Considering returning to membership? Here’s what you will need to apply for re-admission.
In brief
- Former full CA ANZ members must apply for re-admission to return to full membership.
- You will need to provide three CA references and CPD records, depending on how long you’ve been out of membership.
- Back fees and an application fee apply.
Who needs to apply for re-admission?
If you were previously a full member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and your membership ended due to resignation, non-payment of fees, or not meeting your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, you must apply for re-admission to return to full membership.
If you were a CA Program candidate (provisional CA), you should reapply for the Program instead.
Requirements for re-admission
1. References
You may need to supply up to three references in support of your application. The reference forms are located in the final pages of the re-admission application form.
Reference requirements
All references must:
- be current full members of CA ANZ or an eligible Global Accounting Alliance (GAA) body and have at least 3 years of full membership
- not be related to you
- be dated within 3 months of your application
- each reference must be completed by a different person.
The number of references required depends on the reason and timing of your re-admission.
If your membership ended due to resignation or non-payment of fees:
- Application made within 3 months of membership ceasing: No references are ordinarily required.
- Application made between 3 and 6 months of membership ceasing: One reference required.
- Application made more than 6 months of membership ceasing: Three references required.
If your membership ended due to disciplinary proceedings:
You must supply three references.
- All three referees must be aware of the reasons for your membership cessation.
- At least one referee must have known and had contact with you for the entire period since your membership ceased.
The other two referees must have known you for at least three years.
2. Police Clearance (New Zealand Residents)
If you live in New Zealand, include:
- a Ministry of Justice report
- police report from any country you have lived for 12+ months in the past 10 years.
Reports must be dated within 6 months of your application. If the report is black and white or low quality, it must be certified.
3. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Records
You must provide details of CPD completed while out of membership. CPD refers to Continuing Professional Development, which helps maintain professional competence.
If your membership ended less than 3 years ago
- Provide CPD records for the entire period since your membership ended.
- Minimum: 20 hours per year, including up to 10 non-verifiable hours.
If your membership ended 3 or more years ago
- Provide CPD records for the last 3 years.
- Minimum: 120 hours total, including up to 30 non-verifiable hours.
- You must meet the annual minimum for each year.
If your membership was suspended or cancelled due to disciplinary action:
- Provide CPD records for the entire period since suspension or cancellation
If you were excluded for not meeting CPD obligations:
- Contact the Member Admission & Pathways team before you apply
Submitting CPD Records
Include the following details for each CPD activity:
- date completed
- name of provider
- description of the activity
- number of CPD hours
- relevance to any registrations you hold (if applicable).
If you are unsure about your CPD requirements, send your records to Member Admission & Pathways for advice before applying.
4. Cost of Re-admission
- Back fees: 25% of the fees owed while out of membership, capped at $2,000
- Application fee: Listed in the re-admission form
You can estimate your back fees using the current annual subscription rates
We’ll calculate your exact fees before processing your application.
5. Membership Tenure
If your re-admission is approved more than 12 months after resignation:
- your membership tenure resets to the new re-admission date
- you will be issued a new certificate to reflect this date.
You may refer to your previous tenure in CVs or LinkedIn, as long as any break in membership is clearly indicated.
6. Certificate of Public Practice (CPP)
During the re-admission process, you’ll be prompted to use the 'Do I need a CPP?' tool. If a CPP is required, you must submit a CPP application along with your application for re-admission.

Before applying, make sure you have:
- completed application form required CA references (based on timing and reason for re-admission)
