New CA ANZ Professional Standards Scheme approved in Australia
CA ANZ is pleased to announce the approval of its new Professional Standards Scheme by the Australian states and territories’ Professional Standards Councils.
The scheme is a statutory mechanism, focused on ensuring consumer protection through high professional standards and mandatory professional indemnity insurance. In exchange for maintaining these high standards, participating CA ANZ members in public practice receive the benefit of statutory capped occupational liability.
CA ANZ has provided a such a scheme for Australian members in practice since 1997.
The approval is an endorsement of CA ANZ’s work to uphold professional standards, through its conduct framework, including the implementation of recommendations from the most recent Professional Conduct Framework Review.
Importantly, the Councils’ approval of the scheme highlights that Chartered Accountants are professionals governed by a code of ethics, who are committed to integrity, confidentiality, competence and to acting in the public interest.
The new Scheme will commence on 13 July 2025, for a duration of five years, applying to all members who hold a current Australian Certificate of Public Practice (CPP), as well as Affiliate Members and Australian Practice Entity Members.
It applies in all Australian states and territories, under the Professional Standards legislation.
An association with an approved scheme must meet statutory reporting obligations and show that it regulates its members to improve their professional standards and protect consumers of their professional services.
CA ANZ reports to the Professional Standards Councils, the Tax Practitioners Board and Financial Reporting Council, and completes a full self-assessment of compliance with the Statements of Member Obligation that apply to it as a member of the International Federation of Accountants.
CA ANZ also publishes a Professional Standards Regulation and Conduct Annual Report for Australia, which describes the monitoring and standards enforcement activities of the CA ANZ Professional Standards, compliance and Conduct teams in detail.
