CA ANZ Members Lead Progress in Climate and Nature Reporting
The 2025 Climate & Nature Survey from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) reveals a dynamic and engaged membership, committed to advancing climate and nature reporting. Members are increasingly recognising the importance of climate risks in their roles, with 58% of Australian and 66% of New Zealand respondents considering these issues significant. Even those who initially saw climate risks as less relevant are now involved in reporting or responding to client queries, reflecting a positive shift in awareness and engagement.
Overcoming Challenges Together
Data collection and systems remain areas for improvement. Organisations are investing in better processes, knowledge sharing and capacity building. Members involved in reporting are developing new expertise in emissions measurement and assurance, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation.
Expanding Access to Resources
Awareness of CA ANZ’s climate tools and resources continues to grow, especially among Australian members. In the latest survey, 32% of respondents agreed they have all the information they need—an increase from 24% in 2024. However, 42% noted they still require more information to address climate-related matters in their roles. Encouragingly, three in four members are now aware of CA ANZ’s tools and resources.
To support members, CA ANZ has launched a certificate in climate-related disclosures, helping finance professionals assess climate risks, report emissions and prepare disclosure-ready reports. The inaugural hybrid sustainability conference in November 2025 and a series of tailored information guides further support members as they implement climate-related disclosures. The CA ANZ Sustainability Resource Centre brings together the latest news, resources, education and networks to help members navigate sustainability challenges.
Members’ Vision for the Future
Members are enthusiastic about the future and have provided valuable feedback to guide ongoing improvements. They are calling for:
- Greater awareness of key resources
- Practical, accessible guidance and training
- Support tailored to diverse roles
- Timely updates to help navigate regulatory changes
- More opportunities for engagement and collaboration
Looking Ahead
CA ANZ continues to build on its sustainability framework, embedding sustainability into its 2030 strategy with a focus on leading the way in the profession. As a member of the Accounting Bodies Network (ABN), CA ANZ is committed to the ABN’s five principles of sustainability and will continue to invest in education and training for members.
CA ANZ connects members with industry and subject matter experts through events and communities, such as the CA Sustainability Community, focusing on relevant and challenging areas with practical insights. As entities implement climate-related disclosures in Australia and continue in New Zealand, CA ANZ will develop further resources and education to support capability and capacity building. The organisation also plans to address broader sustainability topics, including nature and biodiversity, to keep members informed and prepared.
