Support through Tax Liaison Groups in New Zealand
Having issues with the Inland Revenue system? Get support through a tax liaison group.
In brief
- National tax liaison groups meet with senior Inland Revenue representatives and help resolve issues
- Local tax liaison groups help members to address local issues with Inland Revenue
Local Tax Liaison groups are a place where members support members. The groups have been established to support those who encounter issues when interacting with the Inland Revenue system. These local groups help members address their concerns by meeting with local Inland Revenue representatives to resolve issues. Any significant issues that are identified through this local network are escalated to the CA ANZ National Tax Liaison Group (NTLG).
Local Tax Liaison groups
The independent local tax liaison groups are made up largely of members in public practice. The groups are currently located in Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, and Southland – with work underway to establish a local tax liaison group in Hawke’s Bay and Otago.
The purpose of the tax liaison groups is to support members in their day-to-day interactions with Inland Revenue systems and to help CA ANZ identify significant member concerns. These concerns may be at an operational level, such as START processing tax returns incorrectly, key information not showing in myIR, incorrect messages or correspondence being sent from START. The local liaison group meetings are held four times a year, and work constructively and collaboratively with the local Inland Revenue team to achieve acceptable resolutions.
Most local operational issues are resolved directly between the member and their Inland Revenue agent account manager, or at the local tax liaison group meeting. Any issues that are likely affecting the broader membership are escalated to the NTLG forum.
National Tax Liaison Group
The NTLG is a selected group of members from the local liaison group network and is supported by a CA ANZ Tax Team member (currently Lindsay Ng). This group meets four times a year with the Inland Revenue/CA ANZ external relationship manager and other senior Inland Revenue team leads to discuss significant Inland Revenue operational issues affecting members.
The present CA ANZ NTLG members are Phil Barlow (Auckland), Rory Noorland (Waikato), Abbey Warner (Wellington) and Frank Burgess (Christchurch).
