CA ANZ remains concerned about Code Determination – 10 bodies support disallowance motion

CA ANZ makes its concerns about the Determination clear in an Open Letter to the Government and at a roundtable with the Assistant Treasurer’s office and Treasury

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), along with the other professional bodies, has continued to strongly advocate for changes to the Tax Agent Services (Code of Professional Conduct) Determination 2024 (the Determination).

The tax profession made its concerns clear in an Open Letter  to the government published in newspapers last week and reiterated them at a roundtable with the Assistant Treasurer’s office and Treasury on Friday.

The day before the roundtable, the Assistant Treasurer’s office provided the joint bodies with draft proposed amendments to help facilitate discussions.

While we were pleased to see our concerns with sections 15 and 45 have been acknowledged, the draft proposed amendments still require considerable work and further consultation, which will not be finalised before a vote to disallow the Determination which is scheduled in the Senate for 10 September 2024.

The joint bodies remain supportive of the disallowance motion in the Senate.
