CPD flexibility - choosing how, when and where you complete CPD and obtaining exemptions for periods when ‘life happens’.

Education is a Commitment, Not Just a Requirement

In the fast-moving world of accounting, staying current isn’t just achieved by checking a box - it’s a mindset. At CA ANZ, we believe that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is more than a membership requirement. It’s a personal commitment to growth, relevance, and excellence in your career.

What You Need to Know

CA ANZ Regulation CR 7 in relation to CPD requires members to undertake at least 120 hours of CPD during their triennium (3-year period), of which at least 90 hours must be verifiable (including six hours of verifiable ethics) and 30 hours non-verifiable training. Verifiable On the Job Training can account for up to 50% of your personal Verifiable CPD obligation, up to a maximum of 45 hours per triennium.

Flexible Learning, Your Way

We know accountants are busy people. That’s why CPD is designed to be flexible. You can choose how, when, and where you learn whether it’s:

  • attending a conference or workshop
  • joining a technical discussion group
  • watching a webinar or listening to a podcast
  • participating in in-house or On-the-Job training.

CPD activities are not restricted to courses associated with accounting or financial topics. If the learning enhances your ability to do your job whether it’s leadership, communication, tech skills or getting familiar with Artificial Intelligence it can all count towards your CPD.

Short on Time? That’s Okay

CPD activity is not restricted to a minimum amount of time, you can record whatever time increments whereby you increased your knowledge and gained new learnings. A 15-minute podcast or a 30-minute webinar can be logged just make sure it’s structured, educational, and you can verify it. Have you listened to CA ANZ’s podcast series Small Firm, Big Impact? It’s a great way to learn on the go.  A great quick way to record your completed CPD is to use the CPD log in My CA.

When Life Happens

CA ANZ recognises that life happens, and professional and personal commitments come into play. You may take a career break to have some time out of the profession or to travel the world, go on parental leave or are off work long term due to illness or unemployment or you may work on a part time or casual basis.

In these instances, CA ANZ allows for CPD exemptions whereby members who are not CPP holders or Affiliate members are entitled to a pro rata CPD exemption. CPD exemptions do not require CA ANZ approval unless made on the grounds of exceptional circumstances under paragraph 7.5(d) of Regulation CR 7.

New! CPD Exemption Calculator

To make things even easier, we’ve launched a CPD Exemption Calculator, an informative and user-friendly tool designed to assist you with calculating your own CPD exemption. Once complete, save your calculation and supporting evidence with your other CPD records and have this ready for submission to us if you are selected for a CPD review in the future.
