New Zealand Regional Council Elections and Appointments

Join our New Zealand Regional Council or Local Committees and make a difference.

We are looking for full CA ANZ members to sit on our New Zealand Regional Council or Local Committees. We encourage all members to consider applying no matter what age, experience, sector or cultural background so that our Regional Council and Committees are truly representative of our members in each region. 

Each year we have a number of New Zealand Regional Council and Local Committee positions to fill.

For 2022 we have four elected positions and two appointed positions to fill on the New Zealand Regional Council, and Local Committee positions to fill in each of the 15 Local Committees across New Zealand. These processes will run from August to November.

New Zealand Council positions

New Zealand members are represented by a Regional Council comprising 16 members as follows:

  • four elected from the Auckland/Northland region,
  • three elected from Central North Island region
  • two elected from the Wellington region
  • three elected from the South Island region; and
  • four appointed to balance skills and diversity

This year we have four elected positions (2 x Auckland, 1 x Central North Island and 1 x South Island) and two appointed positions to fill on the New Zealand Regional Council.

New Zealand Council Elections 2022

Elections were held from 20 September to 11 October 2022 for three positions on the New Zealand Council. The results were as follows:

Auckland/Northland Region (for 2 positions), successful candidates are:

Darren Dettling, CA
Jai Nario, FCA

Voter participation in this region was 7.42% (879 votes).

The term for these positions will commence from 1 January 2023 for a period of three years.

Central North Island Region (for 1 position), the successful candidate is:

Josh Hickford, CA was the only nominee and is therefore deemed elected unopposed in accordance with the CA ANZ By-Laws (no election required). The term for this position will commence from 1 January 2023 for a period of three years.

South Island Region (for 1 position):

Mike Drummond, CA

Voter participation in this region was 9.70% (487 votes).

The term for this position will commence from 1 January 2023 for a period of three years.

New Zealand Council – appointed positions

Applications for one appointed position on the New Zealand Council will open from 20 October – 10 November 2022. This position will have a term of 3 years.

Candidates for this appointed Councillor role will be approved by the New Zealand Council at its meeting on 6 December 2022.

Local Committee positions

Local Committees (LCs) are groups representing members across 15 local areas in New Zealand. LCs advise Chartered Accountants ANZ on particular needs, preferences and issues of members in their areas and are a key conduit between Chartered Accountants ANZ and its members. Local Committees comprise between five and ten members in each group.

This year we will have Local Committee positions available in each area. The appointment process will run as follows:

  • Applications open from 20 October – 10 November 2022
  • Local Committee appointments approved at New Zealand Council meeting on 6 December 2022.

Local Committee positions will commence on 1 January 2023 with terms of three years.
