What’s new in Business Valuation: Update from Stephen Reid FCA

As we come into a new financial year, business valuation remains challenging

In brief

  • The war in Ukraine, global supply chain issues, and inflationary pressures are creating new challenges for business valuation professionals
  • CA ANZ’s online Business Valuation Conference provides business valuers an opportunity to learn how to adapt to the changing conditions.

As we come into a new financial year, business valuation remains challenging. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which created unprecedented impacts for society and economies alike, now the war in Ukraine, global supply chain issues, and inflationary pressures are creating new challenges for valuation professionals as they grapple with the uneven impacts of this changing economic landscape.

In times like these it’s more important than ever for business valuation professionals to have opportunities to connect and learn from each other. CA ANZ’s online Business Valuation Conference, on 7-14 September, provides a chance for you to hear from business valuation experts from around the world, as well as from our region, to understand how they are adapting to meet the changing conditions affecting our work.

This year’s online conference offers an impressive line-up of international guest speakers together with industry leaders from Australia and New Zealand covering the latest industry trends and topics. The conference has been created by the Business Valuation Committee and CA ANZ to ensure the program speaks directly to the interests and needs of business valuation practitioners in our region. We’re really excited about the ‘dream team’ lineup we’ve assembled this year and it promises to be a great event. Registrations are open now, so I urge you to register now for this key professional opportunity.

The 2022 online conference offers an impressive line-up of international guest speakers together with industry leaders from Australia and New Zealand covering the latest industry trends and topics.

On that note, I would like to extend my thanks to the committee members and CA ANZ employees who have worked hard this year on our upcoming virtual conference, the soon to be released 2022 Business Valuation Practices Survey and a number of other important initiatives. Your Business Valuation Committee works hard behind the scenes to advance the profile of business valuation and provide input into the decisions shaping our specialisation.

In other news, I would like to welcome PWC’s James Moulton CA to the Business Valuation Committee.

This quarter’s Business Valuation newsletter includes content from some of our own, including an exploration of the linkage between a firm’s ESG performance and its value, by Deloitte’s Salil Zutshi CA, and a look at the differences between price, value and income by PWC’s Richard Stewart OAM FCA.

We hope you enjoy the newsletter and as always look forward to hearing your feedback. If you have any suggestions for future content you would like us to share with the business valuation community, please get in touch:  [email protected]
