• How many recommendations have been put forward during this Review?

  There has been a total of 37 recommendations put forward by the Committee and Mr Cowdroy.

• Will Members have a say on these recommendations?

  Some recommendations have already been actioned as a matter of course, and others will require amendments to the CA ANZ By-Laws and NZICA Rules. Where amendments to the By-Laws and Rules are required, these will be put to a Member vote. More communications will be issued about this closer to the AGM in October.

• How will the Member vote process work? And what’s the timing for that?

  The changes that require amendments to the CA ANZ By-Laws and NZICA Rules will be put to a Member vote in the lead up to the AGM in October 2023.

• Will this Review allow CA ANZ to deal with issues at firms?

  The recommendations extend the existing Disciplinary Framework to deal with firm events, so we can better address some of the systemic and cultural issues we see today. This includes: a five-fold increase in maximum fines for events involving firms; reinforcing with our Members what their ethical and self-disclosure obligations are; and the ability for our independent disciplinary bodies to investigate former members in Australia (noting this already happens in New Zealand).

• Does CA ANZ accept the additional recommendations put forward by the Hon Dennis Cowdroy AO KC’s Independent Review?

  The CA ANZ Board has accepted Mr Cowdroy’s additional recommendations which were within the scope of the Review and will consider the others in due course as part of other processes.

  The recommendations that are being considered in due course require further consideration, consultation with other stakeholders, and engagement with our Members.
