I did initially worry about how people might perceive me working this way, but now I don’t think about it anymore as it has been such a positive experience for myself and my family. It has given me a different perspective and a heightened appreciation for what it’s like to be a primary carer; it has made a fundamental difference to my relationship with my sons, my partner and my role in our family. And when people in my team see me taking parental leave this way, it lets them know that it’s ok for them to do the same.

It’s important to shine a spotlight on these issues, such as the gender pay gap and more importantly to know what we do with those facts… we can then work as a profession to develop solutions to address it.

Accounting is a really well paid and really highly valued and trusted profession and that’s really important for our students to see that and also those kids in Year 8, 9 and 10 at the moment and are thinking about what kind of career they want to go down.
