Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) recognises the outstanding professional achievements of our members in 2024, by awarding 226 new Fellowships and 3 new Life Memberships.
Fellowships
Fellowships are a peer-to-peer recognition of a member’s career achievements. Fellowships acknowledge members who have contributed to the accounting profession through their distinguished careers, services to their community, participation in professional bodies or dedication to research or writing within the field.
Fellowships have been awarded to 226 members across 9 countries including Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, the UK, Fiji and Japan.
Life Member
Life membership is the highest honour available to CA ANZ members and recognises the exceptional careers and service of senior members of the profession.
There are currently 33 Life Members with a cap of 40 at any given time.
Howard (Mike) Blake AM FCA
Howard (Mike) Blake was Tasmanian Auditor-General for almost 12 years concluding in March 2016 prior to which he was Auditor-General for the Northern Territory. His career has involved working in both the private and public sectors, firstly with Deloitte Ross Tohmatsu for 16 years starting in Zimbabwe and ending in Western Australia, where he joined the Western Australian Audit Office rising to the position of Deputy Auditor-General. In 1998 Mike was appointed Director of Finance and Performance at the Metropolitan Heath Service Board in WA, a position he held for four years.
Mike has been active in standard setting having served for six years on each of the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board. In the past he was for eight years a member of the Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand Audit Committee, chaired the Audit and Risk Committee of Tasmania’s Health Department, was a member for eight years of the Board of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand where he also chaired its Audit and Risk Committee, and was chair for four years of TasTAFE, Tasmania’s public provider of vocational educational training. He was until recently a member of the Parish Council of St Georges Battery Point Anglican church on which he was the Treasurer.
Currently he chairs Tasmania’s Electoral Commission, the Board of Anglicare Tasmania and the Teachers Registration Board and, he is a board member and Treasurer of the Victorian Local Governance Association.
He was awarded an AM in the Queen’s birthday honours in June 2021, for services to the public sector and accounting profession.
Joanna Perry FCA
Joanna Perry FCA became a full member of CA ANZ in 1986 and advanced to Fellowship in 2001. Joanna began her career at KPMG, where she rose to the position of Partner, fulfilling this role from 1988 to 2006.
Joanna is an advocate for accounting standards and has held numerous influential roles in the accounting sector, including Chair of the NZ Financial Reporting Standards Board, Chair of the IFRS Advisory Council, and positions with the IFRS Foundation, IASB Interpretations Communities, Victorian (AU) Auditor General's Office, and the Australian Accounting Standards Board.
Her dedication extends to the public service, with multiple appointments by the New Zealand Government. She has been a Member of the NZ Securities Commission, Trustee of Sport New Zealand, Chair of Investment Advisory Panel for Primary Growth Partnership and Member of the National Health Committee.
A mentor for high achieving women, aspiring directors and senior management, Joanna is an exemplary role model. Since leaving KPMG in 2006 she has held and still holds many governance roles in both corporate and not for profits sectors, including Kiwi Property, Trade Me, Genesis Energy, Tainui Group Holdings, Rowing New Zealand, Helius Therapeutics Ltd, Lodestone Energy, and Oyster Property Group.
Joanna is a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit awarded for her services to accounting.
Susan Rix AM FCA
Susan Rix AM FCA became a Chartered Accountant in 1991 and advanced to Fellowship in 2002. In 2014, she was made a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Susan’s accounting career began as a graduate in 1982 before moving to BDO in 1986, where she progressed from accountant to Partner by 1992. She has extensive experience in taxation, general business, management services, family-owned business, corporate governance, succession planning, taxation structures and restructuring.
Susan is generous with her time, actively serving in various roles within the Chartered Accountants (CA) Community. She currently serves on the Chartered Accountants Advisory Group and has previously contributed to the Queensland Regional Council, Public Practice Advisory Group, and Queensland Public Practice Panel.
She has held various governance roles at organisations such as Uniting Care Queensland, Indue, Queensland Performing Arts Trust, AEIOU Foundation for Children with Autism, among others.
In 2024, Susan was nominated as the Queensland Philanthropist of the Year, recognising her four decades of dedication and generosity. Susan was nominated for her leadership in governance, accounting, financial sustainability, and active role in fundraising. These skills along with her commitment to improving business efficiency and profitability have made her a respected figure in the business community.
