Declining University Enrolments

Enrolments in university degrees that typically lead to careers in the accounting profession in Australia and New Zealand are in decline.

This macrotrend is happening in the face of increasing demand for accounting and auditing professionals and the well-documented skills shortages in both Australia and New Zealand.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) has taken a number of steps to address this issue, including opening new pathways and looking at ways to attract new talent to the profession.

But there is more to do, including the formulation of a collective response from our profession and continuing advocacy with Governments. The purpose of this paper is to help focus these efforts.
