Audit Advisory Committee

The Trans-Tasman Audit Advisory Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping CA ANZ’s strategic direction for audit and assurance across Australia and New Zealand. Comprising a diverse mix of audit practitioners, academics, and members in business from both the public and private sectors, the committee meets three times a year. The Committee ensures that member perspectives are represented when providing high-level input on emerging issues and policy development, and informing our advocacy priorities.

  • Jennifer Travers CA - Chair

    Partner, Audit, Assurance & Risk Consulting, KPMG

    Jennifer is a partner in KPMG Australia's Department of Professional Practice. She specialises in emerging external reporting and providing market leading assurance and advisory solutions for clients.

    Jennifer has over 20 years' experience in the Audit, Assurance & Risk Consulting division both in Canada and Australia and has worked across a wide variety of industries including financial services, not-for-profit and manufacturing.

     
  • Wali Aziz CA

    Partner, Head of Audit & ESG Leader, Walker Wayland NSW

    Wali heads up the audit and assurance division of Walker Wayland NSW. His 23-year career includes experience with large Chartered Accounting firms including Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton and Nexia Australia boutique acquired firm. He has provided audit and consultancy services, including due diligence and business reviews, to a range of industries, including large private multinational groups, ASX and NZX listed companies. 

    Wali’s core expertise includes advising large companies on audit and accounting matters in an innovative and practical manner. Wali also acts as an Engagement Quality Reviewer for Walker Wayland Australasia network firm listed audit clients. Wali is also the Chairperson for both the Walker Wayland Australasia ESG Committee and the BKR International Asia Pacific ESG Committee. Wali’s key strength is his passion with his clients and his ability to always be ready to be ‘hands on’ when needed and looking at the bigger picture when it comes to growth, strategy and sustainability. He looks beyond just the audit, with a view to assessing the triple bottom line for his clients. He is passionate about creating sustainable solutions for his clients that will lead to value creation.

    Wali has helped several of his clients ensure that they operate with the right level of governance and transparency as he strives to look for areas of improvement in financial reporting controls, processes and corporate governance practices with sustainability in mind.

     
  • David Borrie CA

    Partner, EY

    Dave is an assurance partner with EY New Zealand. He has more than 15 years experience working for EY in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Ireland. His experience includes leading the delivery of assurance and advisory services to major organisations, both in New Zealand and internationally.

    Dave has experience across a wide variety of industries including insurance, asset management, technology, real estate, media and communications, government and professional services.

     

  • Tony Caldwell CA

    Global Director of Professional Standards, Moore Global

    Tony is currently leading the professional standards function of the Moore Global network and has served in national and global technical and quality roles for over six years. Prior to this, he worked in client-serving audit and advisory roles.

    Tony also serves as the Moore representative for the IFAC Forum of Firms, and the European Group of International Accounting Networks and Associations (EGIAN).

Joanne’s expertise covers all the essentials, including statutory auditing, probity advice, process improvements and due diligence reviews.

     
  • Nicola Hankinson FCA

    National Technical Director, Baker Tilly Staples Rodway

    Nicola is responsible for overseeing Baker Tilly Staples Rodway’s internal office review programme, developing and overseeing the AML/CFT compliance framework and assisting staff around the country in interpreting financial reporting, auditing and other professional standards, such as the Code of Ethics. She regularly updates staff on technical accounting matters, such as AML/CFT, ethics and new accounting standards.

    Nicola brings a wealth of experience having worked in several industry sectors across New Zealand, Asia Pacific and the UK. She has a strong audit and financial reporting background, which includes leading the development of systems and processes required to implement the Auditor Regulation Act in her role as Manager Regulation and Compliance at the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

    Most recently Nicola was a Senior Policy Advisor at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand where she was responsible for advocating on behalf of members, developing guidance to help members comply with audit and financial reporting standards, delivering face-to-face training sessions and responding to technical queries.

    Nicola enjoys helping clients prepare financial reports that meet requirements, articulate their "performance story," and describe how their business has been creating value in the short, medium and long-term.

     
  • Grant Martinella CA

    Director, William Buck

    Grant leads the Audit and Assurance Division at William Buck, Adelaide.  Grant has over 15 years of experience in audit, with an expertise across ASX listed companies, large proprietary companies, associations, not for profit entities and co-operatives.         

    Grant believes that you can learn something from everyone and every situation, so it’s no surprise that he gets the most satisfaction out of building strong relationships with his clients and helping them to find commercial solutions to best manage their risk. He is Registered Company Auditor and an approved external examiner under the Legal Profession Act 2004. He is also an Audit Committee member of the Mallee Catchment Management Authority and Centennial Park.

  • Cameron Town FCA

    Director, Silks Audit

    Cameron is audit partner with Silks Audit Chartered Accountants, Whanganui, which is a regional audit and assurance practice in New Zealand. He is an FMA licenced auditor, OAG appointed auditor and holds qualified auditor status. Cameron’s work encompasses a wide range of industries including schools/education, agriculture, and Maori/Iwi incorporations. Cameron is also a member of the CA ANZ New Zealand Council.
