Sustainability Strategy to 2030
At Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), sustainability is at the heart of our purpose and strategy.
Over the past five years, we have built a strong foundation through our sustainability framework, connecting initiatives such as greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, modern slavery prevention, and responsible supply chain management. These efforts have been central to our 2020–2025 Sustainability Action Plan and our strategic roadmap to 2025, where the pillar of a “Sustainable profession and professional body” has driven meaningful change across our operations and membership.
Achievements to Date
Sustainability Framework: We have developed a comprehensive framework that links our existing initiatives, including modern slavery and responsible supply chain management.
Member Support: We have created training and resources such as the series of information guides to support climate related disclosure implementation in Australia and a refreshed sustainability resources centre which includes resources to support capability and capacity building.
Policy Leadership: CA ANZ has played a critical role in advising governments on policy and regulatory infrastructure for a net zero carbon economy.
Research Collaboration: Our collaboration with the academic sector has produced research, such as the effects of climate related risks on financial statements.
Strategic Alliances: We have engaged with leading organisations, including the Deakin Sustainable Business Centre, the International Integrated Reporting & Connectivity Council, and Accounting for Sustainability, to advance sustainability reporting and assurance.
Community of Practice: In 2025, we launched the Sustainability Reporting Community of Practice (SRCoP) with the United Nations Global Compact Network Australia and the ASX, supporting our members to make informed, sustainable business decisions.
Our Strategy to 2030: Leading the Way
Sustainability is now embedded into the core of our FY26–FY30 strategy, launched in May 2025. Our ambition is to continue leading the way in sustainability by:
Educating and Empowering Members: We are investing in practical tools, research, and educational programs to equip our members to meet evolving sustainability reporting and assurance requirements, and to lead with integrity and insight.
Building Strategic Alliances: We continue to strengthen alliances with policymakers, industry leaders, and global sustainability networks, ensuring our members’ voices are heard and their expertise shapes the future.
Operational Excellence: We are committed to measuring our progress and voluntarily reporting on our impacts, leading by example and holding ourselves accountable.
Net Zero Commitment: As a member of the A4S Accounting Bodies Network, we have committed to achieving net zero GHG emissions within our own organisation as soon as operationally possible, and to supporting our members to do the same.
Indigenous Engagement: In Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, we are centring Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Māori voices in our governance, decision-making, and reporting frameworks, guided by our Reconciliation Action Plan and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
A Call to Action
While we recognise our obligation to address social and environmental risks from an operational perspective, we also have a critical responsibility to ensure our members are aware of, and understand, these risks. Over the next five years, our focus is on empowering our members, championing sustainable business practices, and contributing to a more sustainable future for our profession and the communities we serve.
Together, we will continue to build a profession that is resilient, responsible, and ready for the challenges and opportunities of a sustainable future.
