Regional Manager update
I hope you, your families and your teams are well during this unprecedented time for all of us.
CA ANZ has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 developments and taking practical action to help protect the more vulnerable members of our community.
We also understand you are all dealing a multitude of challenges within your businesses but also at home, to respond to this period of disruption with care and consideration.
As your professional body, we also wish to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of our members, candidates and people so we are moving as quickly as we can to pivot to online or virtual member support and learning or in some cases to postpone or cancel existing face to face ceremonies or events.
Please be assured that as your professional body we will balance the community need for social distancing with the designation’s imperative to learn, connect, be informed and advocate for better policy and outcomes with governments and regulators to navigate through and past this event.
To see more including resources available to support you, please refer to website:
As always, please feel free to contact me with any feedback about this or any other aspects of your membership at email@example.com
Recap of last month's activities/events
This month we acknowledged the great contribution made by some of our newly advanced Fellows on 2 March, we also had Catherine Doherty, Workplace Engagement Manager of beyondblue provide a Workplace Mental Health update on 3 March as well as a very successful CA Connections meet up event between CA members and NFPs on 11 March.
As mentioned above, we will be delivering a range of events and activities online in the immediate and longer term and once we are able to begin face to face delivery again we will confirm details with you. Regional Chair update
Who could have predicted how quickly our world has changed? Our news headlines are dominated by the impact of COVID-19 and our conversations have deviated from the usual topics of shopping, schools, footy, house and share prices etc. We have also been introduced to new concepts of living in a world, which in the short term, might be the norm; how to keep clean, social distancing, self-isolation and of course a restriction of freedom of choice. We can't just do what we want to do at the moment.
It is important to consider what we can do in these times. We can look for opportunities to make a difference and be leaders in business, that is who we are, and our communities more than in any other time now needs our help.
As members of CA ANZ we are part of one of the most respected and resourced organisations in the world, with research, tools and support which should be able to help in most circumstances you encounter. You are not alone and now is a great time to engage with CA ANZ and find out just how we can work together to overcome these challenges. Many of you are now working from home. Even if you devote the time of just one commute to work per week, to log on to CA ANZ though MyCA you will be well rewarded.
MyCA is our gateway to CA ANZ's resources and with the current restrictions on holding events, seminars and courses, it is a great way to partake in on line Continuing Professional Development and further education. Don't forget you have access to LinkedIn Learning which provides a multitude of courses on a plethora of topics.
I mentioned above, we are not alone, and MyCA also gives us a modern and secure means to communicate and collaborate. As an older member of CA ANZ I have often thought that these tools are for the younger members and I have held fears of mis-communicating or sending messages to the masses, however the current circumstances will force us to follow our younger members and learn to effectively communicate through digital means. Don't be hesitant, try, experiment and again you will be suitably modernised and rewarded. If you have any questions, please refer to CA ANZ Support who are only too willing to help us.
As a Council we are committed to representing you as members and will continue to hold meetings within the constraints of our current world. For the first time in my tenure we will be holding our March Council meeting by teleconference. It will present differences in how the meeting proceeds however we will learn and adapt, that is what we all need to do.
If there are any matters which you think Council should focus on, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts with Regional Manager Victoria and Tasmania, Andrew Quinlan from the CA ANZ Melbourne office Andrew.Quinlan@charteredaccountantsanz.com.
Lastly, we will all have some extra time, a valuable commodity, let's use it effectively and make a difference. And, keep happy and healthy.
