Recap of last month’s events
On Monday 2 December we recognised our Provisional Members who achieved CA Program module results that place them in the top 5% of candidates at our Merit Presentation evening. It was great to see so many family and friends at the event and thanks to Sam Sargood CA, outgoing Chair of the Victorian Young CA Panel for hosting the evening.
As mentioned last month, we have some great member events in early 2020 including a CA Program Welcome Event on 29 January, our 80th Annual Golf Day on 17 February and a Mentally Healthy Workplaces update from beyond blue also in February.
The are hoping to make the Golf Day bigger and better than ever because next year is also the Centenary year of the Commonwealth Golf Club. There have been many organisations take out the prestigious trophy over the years and it would be great to see as many of our members and your guests/clients at the event next year. Please see our Education Store for more details.

Regional Chair update
Another year almost over and with it comes the end of my second year as Chair of the Victorian Regional Council and in fact the end of my tenure on Regional Council.
It has been a great pleasure to serve the membership over the past six years and it's been a great honour to have had the opportunity to lead a group of members on Regional Council who are passionate about driving outcomes in the best interests of members in Victoria and indeed across the globe.
I'd like to thank my fellow councillors, members of advisory panels, participants in discussion groups, CA ANZ management and the team in the Melbourne office who have been a source of ideas, support and challenge during the year as we all worked to try to ensure that CA ANZ continues on a path of improving its service and support for the Victorian membership.
At the final Regional Council meeting of the year, we heard from chairs of advisory groups looking after the interests of members in the Corporate, Public Practice and Public Sector segments of the membership as well as chairs of the Diversity & Inclusion and Young Chartered Accountants Panels who operate across all member segments. I am always impressed by the amount of work done throughout the year by members on these Panels, be it organising events for members, advocating on issues important to members or providing challenge and support to CA ANZ management on a range of matters.
We also heard a valuable update from David Gibbs FCA who leads the Chartered Accountants Advisory Group (CAAG). CAAG provides a vital service to members in need of support on a range of issues, including ethical, career, disciplinary and wellbeing.
Newly appointed Councillors Peter Dikranis FCA, Vartika Kalapala CA and Sam Sargood CA were introduced to Regional Council and I have no doubt that they will make a strong contribution to the work of Regional Council over the coming years.
Peter Fromont FCA will take over as Regional Council chair from 1 January 2020. Peter has been Deputy Chair for the past year and been involved in Council activities since the merger of ICAA and NZICA. He will provide strong leadership and guidance to Council over the next two years and, as well as thanking Peter for his support to date, I wish him well in this important role.
Early in the New Year, Peter and the other Regional Councillors will land on key focus areas for Council during 2020 and if there are any matters which you think Council should focus on, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts with Regional Manager Victoria and Tasmania, Andrew Quinlan in the CA ANZ Melbourne office (Andrew.Quinlan@charteredaccountantsanz.com.au).
Finally, I'd like to wish all CA ANZ members in Victoria a very Happy Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year and hope that everyone has an opportunity to connect with family and friends over the holiday period, recharge your batteries and come back ready to seize any opportunities which present themselves in 2020.
