- The role of NSW Council
- NSW events held and coming up in metro and regional areas
We are nearly reaching the end of a very busy 2019, with still some key events to be held in NSW.
NSW Council Appointments
As part of the transition to the new governance model, Regional Councils across Australia will not conduct elections this year for Council positions. For 2020, Regional Councils will comprise six elected and three ‘appointed’ Councillors. The six elected NSW Council positions are already filled by current councillors (whose terms have not yet expired).
The process to select the three appointed councillors follows agreed protocols to be applied across all Regions. For NSW, the process is progressing in line with those protocols. Expressions of interest closed on 18 October and we had a very positive response. An announcement of the appointed Councillors will be made in early December 2019 via the website.
Recent events held
The NSW Annual Ordinary General Regional Meeting was held on Wednesday 16 October 2019 and we were pleased to see a good representation of members attend. The AGM was followed by a cocktail function to enable members to meet representatives of the Board, and members were welcomed by NSW Chair, George Bogdanovic FCA, and Board Chair, Tony Harrington FCA, and President, Stephen Walker FCA, who provided a brief update.
Our key NSW Annual Charity Event in support of National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) was held on Thursday 17 October and I would like to thank all of those who so generously supported this event: those who attended; our sponsors, business partners, and prize donors; and our speakers.
Our MC Ryan Hanson CA, Chair of the YCA Panel did a wonderful job as did debaters Tim Soutphommasane, Professor of Practice, University of Sydney and former Race Discrimination Commissioner, Jane Stanton FCA, past CA ANZ President, Jessica Wirawan CA, Diversity & Inclusion Consulting Senior Manager, PwC Australia, and Sam Ayoubi CA, NSW Regional Councillor, and Tax Director, KPMG.
Given this was the eighth year for this event we thought guests may like to hear about the vital medical research being undertaken as a result of funds raised by NBCF. Accordingly, we were delighted to hear from Associate Professor Alex Swarbrick.
I am pleased to announce that approximately $8,000 was raised in support of the Foundation.
