Update on recent initiatives and events in NSW.

In brief

  • NSW Council update, elections and appointment
  • CA ANZ Toastmasters Club NSW
  • Events and Training

The NSW Council met on 14 October and welcomed an update on the ongoing development of the CA program and also undertook the final review of the Fellowship nominations for 2020.

The Council meeting was followed by the NSW Annual Regional General Meeting, which due to the evolving situation around the COVID-19 outbreak with respect to public health concerns and government restrictions, was held via webcast with members participating via Zoom.

The NSW Chair provided a NSW Report on behalf of NSW Council outlining the key initiatives and strategies and resources put in place to support members this year.

It has been a challenging and remarkable year for us all and particularly our members, who are coping not only with their own situations but in endeavouring to support their clients and employers, and provide relevant guidance in regard to the various government announcements and initiatives.

NSW Council Elections and Appointments

The Chair, Peter Woodley, also advised at the AGM the outcome of the NSW Council election.  Members were provided with the opportunity to vote in the online ballot, and we are pleased to advise that standing Councillor Joanna Balcomb FCA, and member Julie Cowley CA have been elected to NSW Council and begin their three year term in January 2021.

On behalf of NSW Council we would like to thank the thirteen other members who stood for election this year demonstrating their interest and engagement with their professional organisation.

Appointed role vacancy: Following the Election, nominations are now open for one Appointed role on NSW Council and further details are available via the website.

My CA engagement and resources

While many of our members have returned to their offices and businesses there are many still working from home.

There are various groups and opportunities available via My CA and I encourage you to continue to engage with those groups to discuss your issues with fellow CAs.

Members also have access to the CA ANZ Employee Assistance Program and further details on this and other resources are available via the website

CA ANZ Toastmasters

Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organisation. In its many Clubs, members learn communication and leadership skills by practising public speaking and working with others in a warm and friendly environment.

The CA ANZ club is made up of 10-15 people who meet on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings each month for 1 to 1.5 hours.  Each meeting gives members an opportunity to enhance their public speaking skills by giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, or presenting other assignments.  Every speaker is assigned an evaluator who highlights the speaker's strengths and offers suggestions for improvement.

The club is currently meeting via zoom and if you are interested contact Club President, William Huynh on 0432 342 830 or email They can also be found on LinkedIn.

Training and Events

To support members during this time CA ANZ has continued to run a variety of online events. I encourage you to take advantage of CA ANZ’s training and updates, particularly in regard to the various Covid‑19 sessions.

Lastly, we will continue to communicate and engage with you remotely throughout this period until events can be resumed once restrictions are lifted.
