New Zealand For Purpose Reporting Awards 2026

Chartered Accountants ANZ has announced the winners of the New Zealand For Purpose Reporting Awards 2026.

  • The Awards have been recognising excellence in not-for-profit reporting since 2018.
  • They celebrate charities and incorporated societies that have embraced reporting requirements and are innovative in their communication with stakeholders.

The Awards, organised by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), celebrate best practice in adopting accounting standards which provide greater transparency and consistency in reporting across the for-purpose sector.

All eligible entries are judged on compliance with the appliable XRB reporting requirements, and communication effectiveness. In addition, the Sustainability Award recognises how an organisation demonstrates the effective management of economic, social, and environmental resources to ensure a prosperous future for the entity and its stakeholders.

Peter Vial FCA, New Zealand Country Head at CA ANZ, said he was delighted to see not-for-profit organisations rising to the occasion again this year and embracing the reporting standards set by the External Reporting Board (XRB) in their reporting. “The quality of reporting gets better every year” He said, “it is very encouraging to see the diversity of organisations that enter and of the causes they support, it was encouraging to see more incorporated societies entering the awards this year.”

“It is a rewarding process for both the entities themselves - the award winners will undoubtedly be happy to receive recognition for their hard work - and for us, as promoters of good reporting and witnesses to the progress of charities and incorporated societies over the years.”

“CA ANZ, and the sponsors of the awards, are proud to support a sector that performs such a significant and meaningful role in our economy.”

The judging panel consisted of 2021 CA ANZ President Nives Botica-Redmayne FCA, Bob King AT (Fellow), Ahesha Perera CA, Cherrie Yang CA, Dee Lodhia CA, Angela Lam CA, Michael Rania CA, Zowie Pateman FCA, Matt Helem CA, Merchaleen Laaks CA, Matt Coulter CA and Lydia Tsen CA.

First place winners in each of the three reporting tiers and the sustainability category received a $1,000 prize as did the winner of the First Time Entry Award. The highly commended in each category received a $500 prize.

The reporting tiers and sustainability category prizes are sponsored by Chartered Accounting firms BDO, Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, William Buck, PKF and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. The First Time Entry Award is sponsored by Wild Bamboo.

Highly Commended, sponsored by PKF: Brainwave Trust Aotearoa

Their mission is to share knowledge with everyone who influences the lives of pēpi, tamariki and taiohi about the critical importance of brain development during early childhood and adolescence, recognising the positive impact and influence this can have on their wellbeing.

Tier 4

Cycling Without Age (CWA), was started in 2012 by Ole Kassow in Copenhagen, Denmark. Ole wanted to help elders get back on their bicycles but had to find an answer to their limited mobility. His solution was a trishaw in which he offered rides to his local nursing home residents.

CWA is now an international program in 40+ countries. The Napier Chapter was created in 2022 by Alan White and Liz Barrett and they are excited to be a part of this global community.

Sustainability

Winner, sponsored by CA ANZ: Sustainable Business Network

Founded in 2002, SBN is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest sustainable business organisation. They work with organisations of all sizes and sectors, as well as with individuals, facilitating collaboration, share knowledge, provide practical support and invest in nature and sustainable business.

With a special focus on Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs), which represent 97% of Kiwi firms. At the heart of their network are more than 400 organisations and individuals who support and work with them as Impact Investors.

Highly Commended, sponsored by PKF: Karori Sanctuary Trust

Extending over 225ha, this fully-fenced sanctuary is home to many of Aotearoa New Zealand's rarest species of birds, reptiles, fish, insects and plants — all thriving in a predator-free environment. Most of New Zealand's ecosystems have been severely modified by the introduction of land mammals that were not present during the evolution of its ecosystems and have had a devastating impact on both native flora and fauna. The sanctuary, surrounded by a pest-exclusion fence, is an example of an ecological island, which allows the original natural ecosystems to recover by minimising the impact of introduced flora and fauna.

First Time Entry

Winner, sponsored by Wild Bamboo: Kāpiti Youth Support

KYS’s mission is to provide a safe, confidential, youth-focused environment for the delivery of high-quality health and support services for young people in the Kāpiti Coast community.

Thank you to our sponsors for their continued support helping to shine a bright light on the incredible mahi of New Zealand charities and not-for-profits.
