On Thursday 6 November 2025, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) celebrated provisional members in Queensland who achieved Merit Awards for ranking in the top 5% of CA Program candidates. This recognition highlights their dedication, academic excellence and commitment to the profession.

The Brisbane CA ANZ office hosted the event, welcoming recipients, their families and colleagues. Mark Doorly, CA ANZ Queensland Regional Manager, co-hosted the evening with Jillian Richards FCA, Queensland Regional Council Chair, and guest speaker Harish Murugesan CA, from the Queensland Young Chartered Accountants Panel.
Speakers shared personal reflections on the CA journey, focusing on resilience and commitment. Harish Murugesan CA described how becoming a Chartered Accountant opened doors to unique opportunities, from challenging audits in remote areas to international secondments. He emphasised the adaptability and problem-solving skills that define the profession.

“The CA Program isn’t just about being an accountant – it’s about the ability to think and problem solve and put forward a different perspective in an ever-changing world."
Guests were reminded that the CA Program is more than exams and assignments. It builds a foundation for leadership in a profession shaped by technology and innovation. Each Merit Award marks a significant milestone, reflecting the skills and adaptability needed to thrive in a dynamic environment.
The event honoured Merit Recipients from Term 4 2024 through to Term 3 2025. Seven members received special recognition for earning multiple Merit Awards and Tom Spicer was congratulated for achieving Top of Subject.

Beyond formal recognition, the evening provided an opportunity for vibrant networking under CA ANZ’s signature blue and red lights. Recipients connected with peers, shared stories and celebrated their achievements with family members and colleagues.

Congratulations to all Merit Award recipients. Your success reflects the qualities that define Chartered Accountants and the dedication that drives excellence in the profession.
