Recap of our September events

Fraud & Forensics Conference – Monday 2 & Tuesday 3 September 2019

We had our Fraud and Forensic conference on the 2 & 3 September in the Crown Plaza, Auckland. Over 140 members gathered to gain insights from investigators on recent fraud cases, hear about topical issues such as anti-money laundering. whistle-blowing, open source intelligence gathering and get practical insights from experts to build core forensic accounting and investigative skills. Also, how effective New Zealand organisations are at managing their cyber security, what this means to us from a fraud perspective, and how organisations can better manage their cyber security risks.

Achiever Programme – Monday 2 & Monday 9 September 2019

On the 2 & 9 September, over 80 students came together in Auckland to meet with over 20 business professionals and participate in the Achiever Centre workshop. This half day workshop tested the students on a range of academic and personal skills. Our 2019 Achiever Programme was a fantastic two days connecting future members with outstanding employers for paid employment opportunities during the university summer break.

Auckland CA Induction - Tuesday 3 September 2019

The Auckland CA induction for Term 3 2019 was held on Tuesday 3 September. This event was a great opportunity for our newest CA candidates to put their networking skills into practice. Those starting the CA programme for the first time came along to the CA ANZ Auckland Conference Centre to meet each other along with the CA ANZ Account Management team including Andrew Slessor, Module Leader, Christine McKinnon, Careers Engagement Manager, Nicole Clark, CA Representative and Kim Daji, General Manager at William Buck speaking on Resilience.

Public Practice Update – Thursday 12 September 2019

CA ANZ members gathered at our Auckland Conference Centre to hear from Christine McKinnon, CA ANZ Careers Engagement Manager, Sabina Pereira, CA ANZ Careers Engagement Manager, Bernadette Tamihere, CA ANZ NZ Quality Assurance Manager, John Cuthbertson, Taxation Advocate and CA ANZ NZ Tax & Financial Services Leader, Jeanette Ross-Smith, Auckland Regional Manager (Acting) and Robynne Mills, CA ANZ Senior Account Manager – Practice on some key current matters and future developments that are relevant to Public Practice professionals. There were 40 members in attendance and 98 members on webcast.

Emerging Leaders: Quiz night – Thursday 19 September 2019

The Auckland Emerging Leaders Group teamed up with the NZLS Auckland Young Lawyers for a night of competitive trivia fun with fellow accountants and young lawyers at the Paddington Bar in Parnell. This event was an opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow Auckland young lawyers and young accountants. We had over 60 young/early career members in attendance.

Northland Regional Celebration Event – Wednesday 25 September 2019

The Northland Regional Celebration Dinner was held at the Whangarei Cricket Club. Members, friends, colleagues and family all celebrated the successes of our newest members, milestone members and three Fellows of Chartered Accountants.

The evening saw Councillor Paul McElwee FCA, MC the event along with Stephen Walker FCA, President of Chartered Accountants ANZ, present members with their certificates.

The night was a great success with more than 90 attendees enjoying a night of celebration with family and friends.

Upcoming October event

Mentor Exchange Programme Launch – Tuesday 15 October

Mentor Exchange connects the skills and knowledge of our experienced members with new CAs. Getting involved as a Mentor is extremely rewarding as an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a new member's career. Mentees can build professional connections and benefit from an experienced member's knowledge and insights. In 2019 we look forward to also welcoming mid-career Mentees and Mentors to the programme.
