Kia Ora

Not sure about you, but boy am I loving all the opportunities to reconnect with others face to face again. I’m certainly fulfilling my ‘hug’ quota, which has been seriously lacking over the last few months.

The NZ Budget 2022 handed down today focused on health, infrastructure, and climate. Check out our coverage below:

Celebrating our New Members!

What a night we had on Tuesday, where we formally welcomed around 160 New Members in Auckland, into Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand at a certificate ceremony with around 300 of their fierce supporters and guests in attendance. So good to have our amazing members on our NZ Council, Auckland Local Committee and Emerging Leaders Committee involved in the nights proceedings and being there to welcome our newest difference makers into our CA Community. Congratulations again to all of you! Watch out for the pics of the night on our Auckland Facebook Page.

Don’t leave it to the last minute

  • Quarterly Payments options available
  • Exclusive Discount on CPD Sale products available for Early payment by 30 May
  • Super important to update your details, including address, contact numbers and current employment and take opportunity to update communication settings
  • Critical to complete your Mandatory notifications declaration
  • Quarterly payments were introduced as a measure to help members manage their cashflow during the pandemic, with the expectation that this option will conclude this financial year, you will need to opt in for this before 30 June 2022.

Did you know that ‘Sustainability for Accountants’ is a new elective subject in the CA Program?

Enrolments are open now! What’s even more exciting, is this is open for our full CA’s in membership to also enrol in as a CPD and structured learning opportunity, which will provide up to 60 Hours CPD. In Sustainability for Accountants, you will develop your awareness of environmental, social and governance impacts on organisations, and the role Chartered Accountants play in linking these issues to broader business agendas. Can you help make a difference this winter?

Given the noticeable rise in Aucklanders sleeping rough in our communities, one of our members, Jai Nario (FCA), also a CA ANZ NZ Councillor for the Auckland & Northland Region, is running an initiative to help those in need keep warm this coming winter in the Auckland region.

  • 41,000 people in NZ that do not have a place to call home ,
  • ½ the homeless population are under the age of 25
  • More families are becoming at risk of homelessness due to the effects of COVID, inflation, increased rent and the cost of living.
  • In March 2022, the number of people that have gone into the Housing Register increased by 13.4% from the year before.

Project Winter is designed to raise funds solely to put together packages containing essential such as warm clothing to help those sleeping rough get through this winter season.  These will be distributed by Lifewise and Auckland City Mission as organisations that work tirelessly to support those in need in our communities.

You can help support this initiative through any of the following ways:

  • By making a cash donation here via “Project Winter” page - every bit helps!
  • Getting in touch if you happen to work in an organisation that may be able to help supply items in bulk for inclusion in the packages (e.g. beanies, emergency blankets, scarves, raincoats, waterproof bags, essential toiletries, travel mugs, etc.)
  • Volunteer to help with the putting together the packs once we get the supplies in - the more the merrier!

We hope to rally some support from our fabulous CA membership community, feel free to contact me to find out how else you can help make a difference or would like more details of the initiative.  Email: [email protected].
