UCOL student Candice Lillington has been presented with an accounting scholarship supported by six Whanganui Chartered Accountant (CA) firms.
Candice, a A+ student, is studying New Zealand Certificate in Business, Administration and Technology, Level 3 at UCOL’s Whanganui campus. She aims to gain a Bachelor of Business – Accounting.
The scholarship is a collaboration between local CA firms and their professional body, Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CA ANZ) and is awarded to a Whanganui business management student at the Universal College of Learning (UCOL).
Cameron Town, Silks Audit Partner, and member of the Whanganui CA Local Leadership Team, presented the scholarship at a ceremony at UCOL earlier this month.
Cameron said Candice was a student who rated highly in academic performance, achievement and effort to her studies and of her contribution to her learning environment. Candice has a firm aspiration of her future and is working hard to bring that to reality.
"Whanganui Chartered Accounting firms have again clubbed together for this scholarship to support, reward and encourage those embarking on careers as Chartered Accountants," he said.
Candice balances study with her contribution to the community by volunteering a meal delivery service to the elderly, has involvement with the Saturday River Markets and works a part-time job with a local law company.
She said receiving the scholarship was "such a pleasant surprise. It really makes me feel like I have the support of the whole community which makes such a difference."
"Receiving this acts as extra motivation and I am so grateful for the recognition and support that the Chartered Accountant firms have provided."
The scholarship is a collaboration between CA ANZ and the following Whanganui Chartered Accounting firms:
- Spooner Hood and Redpath Limited,
- Moore Stephens Markhams,
- Stephen Lace & Associates,
- Tait Pearce
- Silks Audit and
- Doyle & Associates
