During a pivotal time for the global profession around reporting and assurance, Chartered Accountant Amir Ghandar will join the Advocacy & Professional Standing Team at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).
As Deputy Director, Public Policy & Regulation at the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Amir Ghandar drove the public policy and advocacy strategy for the global profession on issues around reporting, assurance, governance and multinational taxation, and helped inspire the next generation coming into the profession.
He grew the profession’s influence and networks at the top level of international policy making, collaborating with the G20 and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to improve transparency, tackle corruption and build public trust.
Ghandar directed IFAC's engagement as a B20 Network Partner, successfully advocating for policies recognising the value of audit, integrated reporting, public sector financial management and a balanced, harmonised approach to financial regulation.
"Assurance and reporting is truly where the rubber hits the road on accountability and transparency right across the economy," said Ghandar.
"Working internationally, I've seen firsthand how an effective accounting profession can make a real difference in earning public trust and business confidence which is essential for growth and innovation."
"CA ANZ is charting a path on many of the forward-looking questions facing economies and the global profession."
"The high regard that exists internationally for Australia and New Zealand's CAs is a huge asset in securing future prosperity and for local businesses to win confidence and investment in global markets."
"Right now is a pivotal moment in our profession's future, I look forward to engaging with my fellow members and collaborating with our stakeholders to help shape key policy decisions and reimagine how we deliver on society's evolving needs."
Ghandar's strong technical expertise in reporting, assurance and regulation also comes from his time at top tier professional services firms including EY in Australia and London.
Ghandar will commence his role as CA ANZ Assurance & Reporting Leader in December 2018.
