Chartered Accountant peak body accepts invitation to Jobs and Skills Summit

Chartered Accountants ANZ CEO, Ainslie van Onselen, has today accepted an invitation from Treasurer Jim Chalmers to the Australian Government’s Jobs and Skills Summit taking place on 1-2 September.

Ms van Onselen said the upcoming Summit is an opportunity for governments, employers, civil society and unions to work together to solve the most pressing workforce issues facing Australia today.

A major CA ANZ focus will be requesting the Government to urgently address capacity issues in processing visas, as the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) program has grown beyond its initial purpose.

“We need to find a way to get skilled migrants back into this country, back into our consulting, accounting, auditing and professional services firms, and back into our cafes, shops and restaurants,”

“At this summit, we need to solve that problem.”

CA ANZ intends to put forward a number of policy suggestions at the Summit, including with respect to:

  • Maximising jobs and opportunities from climate change and the digital economy.
  • Ensuring that women have equal opportunities and equal pay, including through making the superannuation system simpler, fairer and more financially secure.
