Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia have provided feedback to the Treasury regarding its review of the functions and operations of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO).

CA ANZ and CPA Australia commend the ASBFEO for their strong advocacy activity for the small business sector within government. The joint bodies believe the ASBFEO plays a vital role in independently advising policymakers and regulators on the impact of regulation on small business. The strong engagement of the ASBFEO with the sector means they are well placed to carry out its advocacy mandate effectively.

In our joint submission, we:

• Recommend that the ASBFEOs advocacy function continues
• Suggest the review also considers whether policymakers and regulators are effectively engaging with the ASBFEO.
