Regional Manager Update

This month, the WA Regional Council welcomed Managing Partners from our mid-tier accounting practices. This lunchtime discussion focused on graduate recruitment and qualifications and the effect of technology in the workplace, as well as how the CA qualification can continue to add value in the changing work environment. Thanks to all for sharing their valuable time and contributing to the discussion. 

We also welcomed a bumper crowd of new members and guests to our latest Certificate Presentation Ceremony, held on a particularly cold and blustery night at the Crown. Ninety new members received their certificates from Regional Council Chair Tinashe Kamangira FCA and CAANZ Australian Vice President Peter Rupp FCA, and were treated to a great presentation from invited member Patrick Arulsingham FCA. Thanks to those who braved the conditions to celebrate with us!

Term 2 of the CA Program was kicked off with a welcome evening and orientation for those going into the first module of their program. A question-and-answer panel session was held containing subject specialists in the form of Merit Winners, Past candidates, Young Chartered Accountant Panel members and a Capstone facilitator and exam marker. We hope that those in attendance feel more confident tackling their first modules and wish you the best in the Program.

The office hosted students from Curtin Accounting Association as they held their annual dinner focusing on diversity in the workplace. It was great to catch up with our student representatives from Curtin as well as a number of future Chartered Accountants, Curtin academic staff and invited guest speakers.

Audit & Accounting Conference

On the 22nd of May we held our annual Audit & Accounting Conference, welcoming over 130 professionals. In a landscape of constant change, the focus was on ensuring that attendees were equipped with the most up to date knowledge in their specialty areas. Industry specialists and regulators shared insights on business partnering, technology and the latest in management accounting, audit, and financial reporting.

Indoor Netball Carnival

Once again, the annual Netball Carnival was held at the Lords Recreation Centre, and after many hard-won games it came down to Maxim Advisory and Pink Kandy Floss to battle it out to claim final victory and the 2019 trophy. After a tense and intense game, the grand winner for 2019 was awarded to the Pink Kandy Floss team, aka PKF Perth.

Congratulations to all teams who participated, you are all winners in our eyes.

Not for Profit Board Experience Workshop

At this second workshop, program mentees gathered to participate in a ‘You Can’t Ask That’ style of Q&A with Suzanne Ardagh. Suzanne is a professional director and leads the Board Advisory Service for Executive Search Firm Lester Blades. We thank Suzanne so much for providing her opinion on a number of tough questions, and for her candidness about life in the Board Room.

Building Knowledge Series: Family Law, Tips and Traps for the Private Client Adviser - 6 August 2019
