Recap of last month's events

Nominations for the three Regional Council positions that will be vacant at the end of the year were held last month. I am happy to announce that Amanda Cox FCA and Tinashe Kamangira CA will be holding their Council roles for a second full three year term, and Michelle Shafizadeh FCA - who was filling a casual vacancy on the Council in 2018 - will commence her first full term as a Council member. Congratulations to all three and thank you for your commitment to representing WA members.

The WA office undertook two welcome orientation sessions for CA Program candidates, one for Capstone, and the other for new candidates undertaking their first module in AAA and TAX. The YCA Panel attended both events, and facilitators Chris Schoeman and Kevin Nagamani provided expert advice.

Our partners, the Financial Toolbox, held a focus session to road-test newly revised materials designed to empower women through greater financial literacy. Approximately 50 guests from a number of corporate and not-for-profit entities attended to provide suggestions, feedback and support.

The local Young CAs Panel held a volunteering day at St Barts, where panellists and participants cooked lunch for residents and staff. We had one student representative on the volunteering team, and Ron Louis and Michelle Booth represented the Perth office.

PPAC and YCA Panel events

PPAC hosted a breakfast on 12 September, with a discussion titled, Passing on Family Wealth to the Next Generation. In a similar vein, later that same day the YCA hosted a panel about Personal Wealth Creation, with panellist specialists discussing mortgages and other personal loans, superannuation and SMSF and financial planning.

Indoor Soccer Carnival 2018

The fiercely contested Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Indoor Soccer Carnival returned to Lords Sports Centre. In this World Cup year, we had a record 19 teams participate at this year's carnival. Players of all levels and experience got amongst the action across two divisions: Social Mixed for those who were out for a laugh with colleagues, and for the more serious teams, the prestigious Premier League. Hall Chadwick were winners in Social Mixed and the Premier League was taken out by EY.
