Regional Manager Update
This month our Regional Council meeting was hosted by staff and members at Inpex and learnt about the finance function as well as automation of financial and other services within the company. Thanks to Ryan Glynn CA, Danny Gentili and the team for being gracious hosts. Council members were given updates from David Breust, Chief Marketing Officer and Liz Stamford, General Manager of Australian Regions.
The Not For Profit Board Experience mentees met up for their first workshop, focusing on the Director versus Executive mindset. All mentor and mentee pairs have hit the ground running, with most mentees having experienced their first NFP Board or Committee meeting and providing interesting and useful insights to their Boards.
Our CAs in Business and Young CA Panels had their first formal meetings, and have kicked off their calendars of activity with members participating in workshops, networking and other initiatives driven by these two panels of committed members. Interested members who had made themselves known to staff were also invited to a brainstorming and feedback session on the CA Catalyst initiatives.

Charity High Tea
A fabulous afternoon was had by all, enjoying a bit of high tea fun while listening to some fantastic presentations. The first from Professor Georgia Halkett on Improving support and education for patients diagnosed with cancer and their carers; and a moving talk from Suzanna Matla-Ienco whose sister passed away from cancer and spoke about the journey and challenges that are faced from the carer and patients’ side. All in all, this event raised over $2,500 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and we would like to thank Lisa Hando and PwC for continuing their proud support of this and other Diversity Series initiatives with CAANZ Perth Office.
Our newest crop of CA Student Representatives met in the Perth office to network and learn more about what it means to be a CA. We are proud to engage with these amazing students representing all WA-based universities and doing fantastic work on behalf of the organisation and members.
CA Business Educators Breakfast – we continue our relationship with key teachers, academics and career advisors with another session in our series of breakfast presentations. This time we welcomed William Ellis CA to give educators an update on happenings within the CA Program course content and delivery.
The major event of the year for students and employers alike, Employment Evening, showcased 36 exhibitors and over 400 students with opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and networking. From mock interviews and special speaker sessions to professional profile photos and dozens of potential employers to talk to it was a jam-packed evening for everyone involved.
Sharing Knowledge Series - Professional Standards Roadshow
Our very own Kate Dixon from the Professional Standards team joined WA members to provide an update on professional standards, including who they are, insights on the professional standards process, how the team can assist members and what CA’s need keep in mind and implement in their business lives to ensure highest ethical and business standards.
Forensic Accounting Discussion Group Series
A session was held to discuss a review into an Investigation into Underpayments of Payroll Obligations and Remediation. We welcomed Sarah Thorburn CA and Briony Pole who provided an overview of the impacts associated with the discovery of an underpayment of wages, from a legal, quantification and remediation perspective. A big thank you to member Hollie Ponton CA who assists our team to source topics and speakers of current interest to the Perth forensic accounting professionals.
Fringe Benefits Tax Workshop
The annual FBT workshop roadshow hit Perth on the 8th March. This one-day workshop updated attendees on the most recent changes to the FBT landscape and provided training on the ins and outs of fringe benefits tax including case studies and examples.
Retired Members Lunch
The guest speaker for this special session for our retired members was Geoff Kaye, Director at Compu.Ed, a specialist educational robotics supplier whose principal focus is on the area of STEM education. Geoff spoke about advancements in Artificial Intelligence with a demonstration of his favourite robot, a cute little guy named Robbie!
