Regional Manager Update
The last month has seen our biggest annual event for WA members - WA Business Forum.
Business Forum is our annual one-day conference, created by WA members, that we hold for Chartered Accountants and business professionals in WA. The overarching theme of the forum was twofold, with the morning sessions looking at the pulse of Western Australian Business and technological disruption, and the afternoon sessions focusing on trust in the workplace and business relationships.
We were lucky to also host Professor Peter Klinken, Chief Scientist of Western Australia, over a special lunch session, where he discussed the prospects and pitfalls of new technologies in WA. We hope all who attended enjoyed the day, and please be sure to let us know what you would like to see in next year’s lineup.
We were also honoured to present member Mel Ashton FCA with his well-deserved Meritorious Service Award on the 19th July. The first of its kind awarded in Western Australia since 2014, the Meritorious Service Award for outstanding and distinguished service to our profession and CA ANZ.
Mel has a long history of service to the ICAA and CA-ANZ, both at the state and national / trans-Tasman level. He was instrumental in getting the organisations ICAA and NZICA to a member vote to merge the two and was heavily involved in all of the committees and discussions which took place with NZICA leading up to the decision to ask members in Australia and New Zealand to vote on the merger into a new organisation. It is for this effort especially, that the WA Regional Council recommended Mel to be recognised by CA ANZ for a Meritorious Service Award. WA Regional Council celebrated with Mel, family and friends on this amazing achievement.
The high achievers amongst us also gathered on the evening of the 22nd July to celebrate those receiving their Merit Awards for FIN, MAAF and CAP in Semester One of this year. Congratulations to all recipients, and especially Top of State Award Winners Madeleine Greenhalgh (MAAF, not present), Amber Chan (CAP) and Catherine Wang (FIN). Catherine also took out Candidate of the Module for FIN, meaning that she received the top mark across all of Australia and New Zealand – well done Catherine on your amazing effort!
