Regional Manager update

You know that it is starting to feel like the holiday season when you can see the lit-up Christmas Tree at the old Mill Street Flour Mill from our office!

December has been spent doing quite a bit of planning and organising for 2019, and our WA Young CAs, CAs in Business Panel and Public Practice Committee have come up with some great ideas to roll out. Please keep an eye out for some exciting initiatives from early next year!

We would like to congratulate the newest cohort of members who were awarded a Fellowship, and are especially happy for the great representation from WA:

  • Patrick Aruslingham
  • Malcolm Azzopardi
  • Belinda Burgess
  • John Cumming
  • Amanda D'Costa
  • Alison Fam
  • Denise Fernandes
  • Robert Gambitta
  • Graham Hogg
  • Tinashe Kamangira
  • Leanne Karamfiles
  • Anna Lane
  • Linda Lawrance
  • Tracy Lee
  • Kendal Moss
  • Graeme Parker
  • Colin Pavlovich
  • Michele Rawlins
  • Inderpal Singh
  • Caroline Spencer
  • Irwin Tollman
  • GiGi Visscher

We were so excited to get the news that 2018 President Jane Stanton chose our own Meagan Hamblin as the President's Prize overall winner. The field of nominees was so impressive, but we always knew that Meagan's contribution to the community through Girl Guides WA, and CAANZ through the Young CAs and CAs in Business Panels, would hold her in very good stead. Congratulations Meagan, the WA Regional Council and Perth team are so very proud to be a part of your success!

Speaking of the Regional Council, your WA Council representatives remain unchanged in 2019, and are as follows:

In the lead-up to Christmas, the WA office will be open until 21st December, and then will be closed until Monday 7th January. We wish you all a safe, happy and fun-filled holiday season with family and friends.

Recap of last month's events

Young CA Events

Our Young CAs held a professional networking event on the 27th November - Conversations to Connections. At this great initiative, 50 CAs came together to discuss a number of 'hot topics' and to form networks whilst doing so. Taking the form of 'speed table dating', each session discussed a different topic, from the changes in technology in the workplace and what that will be mean in the future, the definition of fake news, and whether attendees would prefer to win an Oscar, a Nobel Prize of an Olympic medal.

The YCA also held a Strategies for Success, the last of a 5-module set of workshops, on the 14th November. At this one we welcomed Lisa Kazalac to look at emotional leadership and its importance.

We held a Certificate Presentation Ceremony on the 29th November, which hosted 220 attendees. Congratulations again to all new members and Certificate of Public Practice Holders, and thanks for sharing this special time with us!

We also held a Merit Award Ceremony for merit winners and tops of state for MAAF218, FIN218 and CAP118. We also awarded a very special 'Top of Module' for Stephen Clark, who was top of candidates across Australia and New Zealand with a mark of 97.5%. Amazing work, and congratulations again Steven!

Government Liaison

Regional Council members invited senior Audit Partners to a Roundtable lunch on the 26th November, to welcome and hear from new Auditor General Caroline Spencer. Ms Spencer spoke about her work and the work of the Office of the Auditor General, and answered a variety of questions from the audience of 38 members. Thanks so much to the OAG staff and to Ms Spencer for fitting us into a very busy schedule.
