Regional Manager Update
It has been yet another big month for WA members. The Perth office and WA Regional Councillors hosted merit award winners and top of state award recipients at our regular award presentation at the beginning of April. Of very special significance was that we awarded the top candidate of the module for the TAX318 across Australia and New Zealand to Catherine Wang from Australasian Tax Services. Huge congratulations Catherine, and very well deserved!
This month, the WA Regional Council also welcomed Managing Partners and an invited recently qualified or Provisional CA member from each of the Big 4. This lunchtime discussion focused on changes to graduate recruitment and the effect of technology in the workplace, as well as how the CA qualification can continue to add value in the changing work environment. Thanks to all for sharing their valuable time and contributing to the discussion.

Building Knowledge Session: Grass is Greener: 19 March
The age-old question (for CAs at least) – which side is better, practice or commerce? This question was hotly debated with the awesome panel of Chris Schoeman, Tinashe Kamangira, Marc Wiriadisastra and Gillian Nathan for team Practice, and Andrew Zuvela, Caroline Preuss, Shane Cartwright and Alexandra Smith on team Commerce. Attendees enjoyed an enlightening and informative session. The outcome? We can leave that to your own preferences!
YCA Learning Bites Strategies for Success: 27 March
During this fascinating seminar, attendees examined their five-year horizon – how to map career aspirations into a timeline and how you build your career into your life. They discovered how to investigate their career 'why' and gained and understanding of their personal values and vision. The 'portfolio' career versus the 'traditional' career was also discussed, as well as the importance of lifelong learning and building professional networks to enhance your career aspirations. Thanks to the amazing Lisa Kazalac from Professional Vogue for directing this discussion, and Lisa will be presenting the next in this series on the 1st May – see below for more details.
Sharing Knowledge Session - Financial Planning & SMSF update – 28 March
Bronny Speed & Tony Negline presented a brilliant session discussing 2019's fast and furious start with FASEA releasing its 7 final Legislative Instruments, the PC report being released and Justice Hayne handing down his final report on the Banking Royal Commission. Financial Planners and SMSF specialists were also treated to a separate dedicated session focussing on the recent changes to the landscape and discussed topics such as at a practical level how do the changes impact you and your business.
Charity Quiz Night: 4 April
This amazing event was held at the WA Italian Club with over 250 people putting their brains to the test to find the best. With proceeds going to Financial Toolbox, PwC again took out the line honours, and a great time enjoyed by all.
Building Knowledge Session: Capital Markets Outlook: 9 April
This seminar offered an insider's view of bank finance, public equity markets and financing in general. Our panel of John Toll, Alan Langford and Aaron Constantine offered a fascinating insight through their experiences into what they predict will be in store for the 2020 financial year. Special thanks to Sheriff Andrawes for continuing to facilitate this annual and eagerly anticipated event for members.
Sharing Knowledge Session: Tax and Budget (and Federal Election) Update with Michael Croker – 11 April
On a fortuitous day that started with the announcement of the date of the Federal Election, our tax specialist Michael Croker toured Perth and Bunbury to take attendees through the Chartered Accountants ANZ approach to tax advocacy, key Federal Budget developments and the implications for individual and business taxpayers and the tax policies of the major parties for the next Federal Election. He also took people through the Chartered Accountants approach to tax advocacy and the tax policy issues he is dealing with at Australian Government and Treasury level.
