Regional Manager update for WA

Find out what is happening in the WA region this month.

Our last update from the WA office to you before Christmas; how the end of this year has flown by!

We held the last of the three sessions of our Roadshow Forum in Albany, and had a blast with the membership base down in the Great Southern for some great feedback and lively discussion. We were joined by Susan Franks and Tony Negline from the CAANZ Advocacy Team; Linda Lim and Blessings Maruza from the WA Council of members; and Patrick Catena and Viral Patel from the WA Public Practice Panel. Thanks so much to all for taking the time out of your busy schedules. This series was just not possible without the support of our sponsors, so thanks so much to the sponsors AMD, Lincolns and Aon for supporting all three Roadshow locations. And final special thanks to Savannah Burton-Spence in our team, who worked tirelessly across the three locations to ensure that everything ran smoothly.

In the last fortnight, we were also joined by Michael Croker in Perth. We took the opportunity to host a couple of roundtable and tax update discussions with Perth-based specialists. It was great that Michael took the time to update and discuss current advocacy and activity in this area.

Last week, we celebrated our new WA members and certificate of public practice holders at a ceremony in Perth. Thanks so much CAANZ President Kate Boorer FCA who travelled to Perth for the event, as well as Vice President Tinashe Kamangira FCA, 2022 WA Council Chair Evelyn Hogg FCA, MAICD who gave a local update to members. A special thanks to new member Tanya Eksteen for accepting the charge on behalf of new members.

We also took the opportunity at the new member ceremony to award the 2022 WA Young Advocate Prize to a very deserving Katrina Pansacola CA. The Young Regional Advocate recognises a member under the age of 35 who has made a significant contribution to the profession and the community. Katrina was a representative on the WA YCA Panel from 2018 to 2022 and Chaired the YCA Panel over the difficult 2020 pandemic and lock-down. Over this challenging time, she managed to keep the momentum of the Panel rolling through many disruptions and changes to planned activity. She also oversaw a number of volunteering initiatives and ensured YCA involvement. These initiatives included Disabled Surfing, Relay for Life and St Bartholomew’s House. During her stewardship, the Young CAs Panel went from strength to strength and our WA Council felt she was very deserving of this award. Congratulations Katrina!

Our Panel groups came together to plan their activity and approach in 2023. At this last meeting of the year we took the opportunity to thank all of the hard-working members of our Panels with a couple of drinks and some nibbles, and it is always great catching up with the group. Thanks to all on the WA Panels for their work during the year; it is very much appreciated by myself and the WA team.

Speaking of those who give back, we are currently looking for volunteer CAs who are leading the way in Sustainability and looking to shape the landscape and the profession. If you fit this description, you should consider becoming a member of the CA ANZ Trans-Tasman Sustainability Management Advisory Committee or a key sustainability stakeholder to CA ANZ. If you would like to know more or submit an expression of interest, visit Join CA ANZ’s Sustainability Management Advisory Committee. Nominations close Monday 19 December 2022.

The CA ANZ Perth office will be closed from Friday 23 December through to Monday 16 January. We wish all of our members and their loved ones a safe, healthy and happy holiday season.

Aymee Mastaglia,

WA Manager
