Regional Manager update

With listed company reporting season over and the deadline for a number of regulatory reports fast approaching, hopefully those involved in annual reporting over the financial year end are seeing more than a glimmer of light at the end of the reporting tunnel! If anyone is looking for something to look forward to after a hectic couple of months that will provide both valuable CPE hours, as well as plenty of networking and social opportunities, then the World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) in Sydney is a great alternative to the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. WCOA is a little over a month away and registrations are open.

Recap of last month's events

Over the past couple of months, Regional Council has hosted another visit from CA ANZ CEO Rick Ellis, as well as Group Executive Advocacy & Professional Standing, Simon Grant FCA, and General Manager Australian Regions, Liz Stamford FCA.

Rick delivered a detailed update on work being done to improve processes around how the organisation collects, responds and learns from direct interactions with the membership, including the handling of complaints and compliments. He also outlined programs in place to cement a collaborative, member-centric culture throughout CA ANZ.

Regional Councillors took comfort that many views expressed by members on these and other matters were being thoughtfully considered by management as they progress both business as usual, and strategic initiatives for the benefit of the membership.

Simon provided an update on his priorities for the advocacy team, including a greater focus on state based advocacy issues and a clearer alignment of advocacy issues with member needs. If there are any areas of advocacy you feel should be a focus, please provide these to Duncan Pittard in the Melbourne office and he pass them on to the Advocacy & Professional Standing team.

Liz gave an update on the progress of strategic initiatives, including the MyCA pilot, which is progressing well and is on target for a roll out to members early next year.

Finally, congratulations to Regional Councillor Duncan Honore-Morris FCA who will represent Victoria on the CA ANZ Council from January next year. Duncan replaces David Thompson FCA whose term of office finishes in December. Thanks to David for being a strong and effective advocate for the Victorian membership during his tenure on Council and I look forward to his continuing contribution to the Victorian Regional Council.

I am also happy to advise that due to the Chartered Accountants ANZ Board meeting in Melbourne on Thursday 11 October, Board Members and members of the Executive team will also be in attendance at the Victorian AGM to network with Victorian members, so please join us on the night.

Chartered Accountants Advisory Group (CAAG)

I've regularly mentioned the fantastic work and support provided by the Chartered Accountants Advisory Group and was delighted to take part in a recent meeting of the Chairs of the CA Advisory Groups around Australia and New Zealand.

The purpose of the meeting was to share our experiences over the past year, receive an update from key teams within the business and brainstorm ideas to improve the service even further.

One of our recent initiatives was to create a video featuring members of a number of the CA Advisory Groups to talk about the service and encourage members to take advantage of the support they can provide.

If you would like to know more about CAAG or refer a query to the group, please contact me on duncan.pittard@charteredaccountantsanz.com

Nominations for Advancement to Fellowship

I'm pleased to report that we have received a number of nominations for Advancement to Fellowship of CA ANZ from the Victorian membership, and are currently working towards finalising the nominations for review by the Victorian Regional Council in late October before final approval is sought form the CA ANZ Council in late November.

Congratulations to all of the members nominated – more to follow!
