- Regional manager's report
- Regional chair's report
We’ve been thrilled with the response to our new Forums, with the Public Sector and Business Forums being delivered in May with very strong attendance.
One of our key priorities for 2018 was developing a series of local events allowing members to access multiple hours of CPD for half day sessions at our Melbourne office. We leveraged the expertise and networks of our member advisory panels to ensure we developed relevant content, so my sincere thanks to them for their support and guidance.
Practice Forum is the next event of this nature on the calendar and will be delivered in the first week of August in the Melbourne office, ably supported by the Victorian Public Practice Panel. Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank a few of my colleagues in the Melbourne office for their hard work in making these forums such a success – Bec Elphinstone for the Public Sector Forum and Andrew Quinlan for the Business Forum.
Mentor Exchange Closing Event
The 3rd cohort of the Mentor Exchange Program celebrated the completion of the formal part of the program with a closing event in the Melbourne office on 3rd May, with 48 Mentors and Mentees in attendance.
While this is the end of the formal part of the program, it was clear that many of these relationships, established over the last 6 months will continue into the future.
I’d like to thank all participants again for their support of such an important initiative and make a special mention of 3 of our Mentees who shared their experiences with the group on the night: Sukriti Dharni, Jamie Loh and Mark Been.
Councils and Committees
A recently published article on the CA ANZ website focusing on the importance of our Council and Committee networks highlights the enormous value and contribution our members make to the organisation, along with opportunities to get involved.
Chartered Accountants ANZ is committed to being a member- focused organisation. To make this a reality, we have a number of committees and regional councils that represent the member’s interests, along with a range of Member Advisory Panels in each state, territory or region.
In Victoria, members are well represented with the following member advisory panels operating:
- The Victorian Public Practice Panel
- The Victorian Public Sector Panel
- The Victorian Corporate Advisory Panel and
- The Victorian Young Chartered Accountants Panel
While the majority of the panel have a full complement of members currently, if any members are interested in expressing their interest in joining one of the panels, please don’t hesitate to make contact with me.

Regional Chair update
Regional Council met in early May and we had the pleasure of welcoming CA ANZ President Jane Stanton FCA to our meeting.
Jane provided Council with an update on progress on the recently announced strategic initiatives as well as more detail behind what the CA ANZ organisational changes will mean for members in Victoria and more broadly. The focus of the organisational changes is on delivering better, relevant services for members across all member segments and we are looking forward to hearing more about implementation of the changes over the coming weeks.
For a number of years now, CA ANZ has had a close relationship with beyondblue, recognising that mental health issues can touch anyone at anytime and often its accountants in small and medium practices who see the first-hand effects when their clients are affected.
Similarly, chartered accountants in practice and business can experience the pain of mental health issues as they face the sometimes relentless demands of the modern commercial environment. With that in mind, there is a great opportunity to support the work of beyondblue by coming along to the Victorian CA ANZ 2018 Charity Trivia Night on Thursday 7 June.
You can test your general knowledge, have a fun evening, support a great cause and perhaps even win a (major?) prize.
