Regional Manager Update

This month I'd like to acknowledge Duncan Pittard CA, who as you might know recently know left CA ANZ after nearly 15 years to join the Law Institute of Victoria as General Manager of Member Experience and Support. Duncan's service to members, provisional members, employers, many different stakeholder groups, the profession as a whole and the team at the Melbourne office has been tireless and we are all better for and grateful for his commitment. Duncan, on behalf of the Victorian membership and the team of the Melbourne office, we wish you all the best for your next chapter and know that our paths will cross in the near future.

I'm also pleased to share the update from the February Victorian Regional Council meeting chaired by Charles McNeill. CA ANZ CEO, Rick Ellis attended and provided an update on the status of CA ANZ's strategic initiatives including our new Vision, Purpose and Values. Group Executive of Member Engagement, Mark Rice then provided an update on Improving Member Services including implementation of a new Member Complaints process. Group Executive of Education and Learning, Simon Hann and Manager of Learning Initiatives, Lisa Thomas then provided an update on CA Program, CAX, CA ANZ's Competency Framework and Flexi Pathways into the CA Program. Councillors concluded the meeting discussing Member Engagement initiatives for 2019 including advocacy focus areas, connections with Member Advisory Panels and increased use of social media to connect with members. If you have any feedback on these or other issues you'd like to share with Councillors, please send me an email Andrew.Quinlan@charteredaccountantsanz.com

Recap of last month's events

During March, we've had some really successful events including our case study based FBT Workshops which were delivered by our Senior Tax Trainer, Peter McGinty as well as the Melbourne Employment Evening which attracted over 500 students and our Fellowship Presentation and FCA Networking Event which saw 9 Victorian members receive their Fellowship certificates.

On another note, it was a great privilege to attend The University of Melbourne's Australian Accounting Hall of Fame Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 13 March with CA ANZ 2019 Vice-President Peter Rupp, CA ANZ Councillor Duncan Honore-Morris and Victorian Regional Council Chair Charles McNeill as well as other CA ANZ members and staff. The event saw Wai Fong Chua AM FCA, Graham Peirson CPA (deceased), Roger Simnett FCPA and Ray Ball inducted into the Hall of Fame - congratulations to all inductees.

Upcoming events

I recently saw Peter Williams FCA of Deloitte Australia present on the "Ethics of AI" and I know his session on "Disruptive Innovation" at Accounting Conference will be entertaining and thought provoking!
