Regional Manager update

A reminder that nominations are now open for both CA ANZ Fellowship and the CA ANZ Young Regional Advocate Award.

Fellowship recognises members for their outstanding career achievements and contributions to the profession. Their contribution may have been to CA ANZ, to the community, to business or through teaching, research or writing in the field of accounting. Members who have been awarded a Fellowship are entitled to use the designation FCA. Please note, nominations close on 29 July 2019 and nomination guidelines and forms are available on our website here:

On the other hand, the Young Regional Advocate Award is given to emerging CAs who demonstrate a passion for the profession and have strongly contributed to the community through participation in not-for-profit governance or volunteering their professional skills. This is great opportunity to recognise an up-and-coming CA’s efforts so far and encourage them to go on to even better things. Please note, nominations close on 30 August 2019 and if there are any CAs in your circles who fit the above criteria, please enquire about submitting a nomination to the Victorian Regional Council at Victorian.Council@charteredaccountantsanz.com

Regional Chair update

Last month it was a pleasure to host a CA ANZ Victorian Past State Chairs luncheon which included CA ANZ Group Executive of Member Engagement, Mark Rice and CA ANZ Councillor, Duncan Honore-Morris as guests.

Our Past State Chairs have a wealth of experience and over lunch we covered a wide range of issues including updates on Council’s strategic themes for the year and the significant progress made in improving member services by the Member Engagement team.

I’d especially like to thank John Balmford FCA who was Chair of the Victorian Regional Council in 1976 for taking the time and making the effort to attend the luncheon - we very much appreciate it John.

Another great engagement opportunity led by Penny Hutchinson, Chair of the Victorian Public Sector Panel and attended by Peter Fromont, Deputy Chair of the Victorian Regional Council and Andrew Quinlan, Regional Manager – Victoria and Tasmania was hosting Amy Auster, Deputy Secretary of the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance at a CEDA Trustee Briefing on the recent Victorian Budget. Amy’s economic and budget expertise was outstanding and reinforced when answering a range of questions from guests. Thanks very much to Penny Hutchinson for hosting the luncheon on behalf of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Last month I made mention of the CA ANZ Discussion Group network and I’m pleased to say that the Victorian Regional Council will be inviting the Chairs of the Discussion Groups to our meeting on 12 September to provide an update on each on their groups and to network with Councillors. If you are a member of a CA ANZ Discussion Group please reach out to your Chair and share any feedback with them ahead of the meeting.

As the end of financial year-end approaches we know this can be a busy and stressful time for many members. Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand have some fantastic resources available to members such as the CA Advisory Group and CA Wellbeing including the Mental Health First Aid Guide for Chartered Accountants created by Mental Health First Aid Australia. Links to both of these resources are available below and I encourage you to seek support and assistance where required.
