Regional Chair Update
A new financial year already – traditionally a busy time of year for our profession. Although the notion of a “busy season” for practitioners and corporate accountants has all but disappeared from the landscape with everyone seemingly busy all year round with all the challenges and opportunities the modern business world presents.
Having said that, there will be a large number of our fellow Chartered Accountants and CA Program participants, who will see an uplift in activity over the 30 June audit and reporting season and we should all be mindful of the pressures over that time.
As you are closing the books, drafting or auditing financial statements and regulatory returns while meeting deadlines to the highest standards of quality, I urge everyone to look after their wellbeing.
Don’t forget, if the going gets tough, CA ANZ partner beyondblue can provide resources and advice to help you with any stress and anxiety you find difficult to manage.
Recap of Events
The Regional Council met in late June and heard an update from CEO Rick Ellis on the progress of the initiatives from the Strategic Review.
Council members also took the opportunity to provide feedback to Rick on a number of topics, which was informed by Council’s consultation with Victorian members. Our input will help inform how the organisation can continue to focus on member needs under the organisational realignment announced to members in April.
In June, I attended a certificate presentation ceremony where more than 200 new Victorian Chartered Accountants received their membership certificates. It was a great pleasure to see so many new additions to the ranks of Chartered Accountants ANZ and they should all be congratulated for their commitment in meeting the challenge of the CA Program.
Also during June, it was a privilege to host the annual lunch of past Chairs of the Victorian Regional Council. More than 20 past Chairs attended and we were fortunate to also have CA ANZ President Jane Stanton FCA in attendance. The past Chairs provided valuable insights on what issues are important to Chartered Accountants today, and how the organisation is engaging with the membership. It was encouraging to note that many of the topics raised by the past Chairs are well and truly on the Regional Council’s current agenda and their input will assist both Regional Council and CA ANZ leadership in progressing that agenda.
Following on from the successful events held in May for members in the public sector (Public Sector Forum) and in the corporate sector (Business Forum), the Victorian Practice Forum will take place on 3 August 2018.
This half-day event is presented by the Victorian Public Practice Panel and has been designed with input from members in public practices in order to deliver relevant content to members in practice. Details are available at VictorianPractice Forum.
