Victorian Regional Council
The Victorian Council began their year with the first meeting held in mid-February 2018. Council activities this year will again prioritise member engagement initiatives, with more detail coming in future editions of Insight. On a personal level, I’d like to acknowledge and thank Charles McNeill FCA for taking on the role of Regional Council Chair for 2018. We look forward to work with Charles and the rest of the council during 2018.
40 Year Anniversary – Financial Management Discussion Group No1. (formerly) Established 1978!
We’re delighted to recognise and celebrate the 40 year anniversary of one of our long standing discussion groups, the Financial Management Discussion Group. A special event is being held to mark the occasion, providing an opportunity to meet the members of the group and recall the good old days.
The details of the event are as follows:
- Date: Friday night 4th May 2018.
- Time: 7pm for Dinner.
- Venue: Danish Club, Level 3, 428 Little Bourke Street. Melbourne.
- Cost: $110 includes alcohol per person (old and new members)

Communications with members – Social Media Pilot
Members will have received invitations from Chartered Accountants ANZ to participate in two Social Media Pilots utilising Facebook and LinkedIn as communications channels. I’m delighted to report that we have well over 1,000 members participating in these pilots at the time of writing!
We’re keen to understand how we can leverage social media to provide a communication and feedback channel back into Chartered Accountants ANZ, keep members up to date with Chartered Accountants ANZ news and activities, encourage discussion and maximise the opportunities to connect our members in various segments and locations with each other.

Regional Chair update
Happy New Year to all our Victorian members. With the holidays over, the Ashes recovered and AFL filling most of the sports pages again, it’s also back to work for your Regional Council as we look forward to our first meeting of the year this month and my first as Chair of the Council. At this meeting we’ll welcome new Councillor Shannon Sidaway CA as well as re-elected Councillors David Thompson FCA and Duncan Honore- Morris FCA.
One of the themes on which Council will have a strong focus this year is how to improve engagement with members in Victoria – both informing members about the support and resources available from Chartered Accountants ANZ but importantly listening to members to help shape the organisation to meet member needs across all phases of their careers and in the different segments in which members operate.
To this end, all members have been invited to participate in a social media pilot across Facebook and LinkedIn. The pilot aims to test what we hope will be effective contemporary communication channels for listening and sharing about our organisation and the broader business world. Stay tuned for an update on progress on this later in the year.
