Regional Manager update
As part of our recent strategic review, you told us you wanted us to support your ongoing development by providing a greater range of tools and lifelong learning. So we are now pleased to provide free access to LinkedIn Learning as part of your 2019-20 subscription.
LinkedIn Learning is an online learning platform that delivers a unique mix of world-class content with more than 7,000 courses and 200,000 videos in 7 languages taught by industry experts. The content is refreshed regularly, with more than 35 new courses added each week covering business, technology and creative skills.
All LinkedIn Learning courses are broken into short videos, so you can focus on a key topic. All courses are also optimised for multiple devices, such as iPhone or Android-enabled smartphones or tablets. So even on a small screen, courses and features are optimally displayed for easy use.
Combined with our existing range of premium discipline-specific and business skills offerings through our CA Education Store, LinkedIn Learning will further cater to the vast learning needs of all of our members.
Please see your inbox for the invitation to join LinkedIn Learning and we hope you find the content and experience of great value to your membership of CA ANZ.
As I mentioned last month, on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 August CA ANZ will be holding a Member Roadshow in Hobart and Launceston respectively featuring CA ANZ's Australian Tax Leader, Michael Croker who will provide a Post-Election Tax update and CA ANZ's Group Executive of Member Engagement, Mark Rice who will provide a Member Engagement update including more about improvements to member service including the recently launched myCA portal. These sessions will then be followed by a Member Town Hall discussion where you will have the opportunity to share any feedback and ask questions of the CA ANZ team and our Tasmanian Regional Councillors.

As always, please feel free to share any feedback with me and I look forward to seeing you during the year.

Regional Chair update
With the snow falling across the state over the past few weeks confirming we are well and truly in the depths of winter, if you're anything like me you are looking for ways to beat the cold.
And while nothing compares to a woodfire, the Tasmanian Regional Council has been keeping warm in a different way – by heating up our efforts to advocate for state tax legislation changes on behalf of our members.
One issue which was brought to our attention was the catch-all definition of a Foreign Investor, which has resulted in numerous cases of people being unfairly charged a Foreign Investor Duty Surcharge when transferring property titles.
After raising this issue with the Treasurer, the Council was invited to submit recommendations about how the definition of a Foreign Investor could be amended to more fairly represent the intentions of the legislation and we are looking forward to seeing an outcome in the coming months.
We have also been in discussions with all sides of Tasmanian politics to investigate the viability of a broader review into the state tax and revenue base.
With Tasmanian CA ANZ members' collective financial knowledge we can make a real difference to the economic future of our state – please don't hesitate to contact a Council member if you have any suggestions as to how Tasmania's tax system could be improved.
At the last council meeting we were given an update on the MyCA platform from the national CA ANZ team. The platform has seen a huge rise in use since launching earlier in the year and is a wonderful resource for CAs at any level of their careers, giving members the opportunity to establish professional and social networks and ask questions about a wide variety of topics.
If you haven't already, I encourage you to spend some time discovering MyCA and seeing how it might help you in your day-to-day lives as CAs.
Last but not least, I would like to mention the upcoming CA ANZ Tasmanian Member Roadshows taking place in Hobart and Launceston next month.
Invitations have been shared with members by email, via the Tasmanian Members Group on Facebook and Andrew has also included a link to the CA ANZ Education Store in his update and you can register using that link. The roadshows will present an invaluable opportunity to hear from the always engaging CA ANZ Australian Tax Leader, Michael Croker and CA ANZ Group Executive of Member Engagement, Mark Rice.
Michael and Mark's presentations will be followed by a town-hall style discussion, where you can ask any questions you might have about CA ANZ membership and have your say on what's working and what's not.
It's not often we have the chance to come together in such large groups and I'm very much looking forward to seeing you all at these events on August 13 and 14.
