Recap of last month’s events and activities

It was the turn of our regional members in Mid and South Canterbury (MSC), and Nelson and Marlborough to join us at our annual Presidential events to celebrate the achievements of our newest members, and those that have achieved significant membership milestones in their careers.

Timaru hosted this year’s MSC Dinner at the award winning Oxford Restaurant and we were delighted to have CA ANZ President Cassandra Crowley and the New Zealand Country Head for CA ANZ Peter Vial join us for the event. The following members were recognised at the event:

New members: Milestone membership:
Sarah Mould CA Glenn Black CA 25 years
Wayne Moore CA Maurice Myers CA 40 years
Olivia Pope CA Trevor Croy FCA 40 years
Angus Dyer CA Paul Johnston CA 40 years

Our Blenheim gala lunch at Wither Hills Winery was a sell-out event with eight new members, and three milestone recipients recognised:

New members: New members: Milestone membership:
Loren Moore CA Laura Murphy AT Mark Peters FCA 40 years
Peng Zhang CA Amanda Morton AT Russell Young CA 40 years
Nirosha Abeysundara CA Joanne Brown AT Gillian  Edwards CA 50 years
Jenna Gilbert AT Catherine Sheard ACA

Of note among the recipients were four new members being admitted into the AT College, plus an additional two that couldn’t attend the lunch. There continues to be good demand for this qualification, particularly through the Experience Pathway. This recognises the accumulated knowledge and experience of individuals working within the profession.

Nelson hosted the last of our October regional presidential ceremonies with both Cassandra Crowley and Peter Vial joining us for the event having earlier attended the Marlborough Gala Lunch.

Five new members and four milestone recipients were recognised at the event:

New members: New members: Milestone membership:
Joshua Thompson CA Meegan Riley CA Rebecca Mason CA 25 years
Richard Hunter CA   Darren Mark CA 25 years
Nicholas Eden CA   Bronwyn Monopoli FCA 40 years
Sarah Peek CA   Arthur Northcote CA 60 years

Arthur received a standing ovation from the dinner guests following his acceptance speech, which detailed his extensive involvement in the meat industry. Bronwyn Monopoli's contribution to the Nelson business community was also acknowledged by her longest serving client who attended the event. The value of a chartered accountant to their clients was never better illustrated by the glowing endorsement Bronwyn received.

During the month we also hosted Knowledge Sharing sessions in Dunedin and Christchurch with technical updates being provided by the CA ANZ Audit & Advisory Team and Anthony Heffernan from the External Reporting Board (XRB). These sessions provided members with an update on the financial reporting and audit standards.

We also launched the first of our Westpac Financial Education Workshops in Dunedin and Christchurch. The Dunedin event focused on first home buyers while the Christchurch workshop was tailored to those members looking at planning for their retirement.

Christchurch also hosted Chief Executive of the XRB, Warren Allan who gave a very informative presentation on Extended External Reporting. This highlighted the value and increasing trend towards a more integrated reporting regime for companies.
