Recap of recent events/activities
The importance of our relationship with the NZ Tertiary sector was again highlighted with recent member and student events being held in Dunedin and Christchurch.
Firstly, in early May we hosted a joint “Town & Gown” event with Otago Universities Business School to recognise the academic achievements of their 1st-3rd year BCom students. Members were invited to see the top accounting students from each year group being presented with their certificates by Inland Revenue CFO Lara Ariell. She also delivered a presentation on the challenges and opportunities facing the profession. She highlighted the broader skill set required by today’s, and the next generation of, accounting professionals with greater emphasis on business relationship/development skills now required by employers to compliment the technical skills gained through tertiary and CA Program studies.
Awards were also presented to Lincoln University prize winners at their annual event by Regional Manager Colin McDougall who spoke about the importance of the commerce programmes run by the universities and their relevancy to the CA ANZ CA Program and the employment opportunities that await the graduating students.
Dunedin hosted its largest annual new member event in recent years with 155 members and guests attending the cocktail function on 10 May at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. A total of 26 new members received their membership certificates from CA ANZ Vice President Stephen Walker along with three 25 year membership recipients. Earlier in the day The Dunedin Club hosted the annual 40, 50, 60, & 70 membership milestone lunch where 8 recipients were honoured.
