Regional Manager update

May/June continues the busy activity around the South Island. The Southern Primary Sector update was a great success in Invercargill with members travelling from afar as Nelson and Timaru for the event. Strong numbers from both Otago and Southland showed the relevance of the content that allowed the event to be the most successful ever in regards to members attending, 88 members. The strong speaker line up including Conor English and Cameron Bagrie made for an informative day.

The CA ANZ Achiever Programme, has kicked off with Employer Registrations now open. The Achiever Programme is run across Australia and New Zealand, employing a rigorous screening process to identify well-rounded, quality students currently studying business or accounting. The aim is to connect the best and brightest with employers like yourself offering paid** work experience (** The salary for student placements is at the discretion of employers and does not vary from firm to firm.) To find out more about the Achiever Programme follow this link.

Last Friday we held the Christchurch Milestone event at the beautiful surrounds of Riccarton House. We had 15 recipients attend bringing with them family, friends and work colleagues to make it an extra special afternoon to celebrate their 40, 50 or 60 year Milestone achievement. We were lucky enough to have Dr Nives Botica-Redmayne, NZ Vice President, attend as our special guest and we all enjoyed hearing the stories and work history of the recipients. (photo attached)

Otago LLT - Chair – Andrew Douglas CA

I have been Chair of the Local Committee for the past two years and have been with the Committee for a couple of years prior to that.  Dunedin is in a really exciting place at the moment with the recent economic growth bringing new people to the city.  There is a lot of investment occurring by the large organisations in town, some of which is catch-up investment to ensure the city is humming for the population growth that is occurring.  This has meant new CA's have come to town which is great to see.  The Local Committee organise some great social events as part of on-site business tours, so if you're a local member make sure you get along to the next event.

CA ANZ does a lot of great work in different fields such as being the advocacy body on government regulatory changes and bringing our new CAs through with the right education courses - I feel it is really important for members to stay connected to their professional body by attending events, talking to your Committee members and reading the thought leadership publications.  I have recently started my own consulting practice and recruitment agency after 11 years in a big four environment and an additional six years overseas, so realise the importance of ensuring we stay connected and share our professional development stories with each other on a local setting.

Otago are very lucky to have a group of dedicated representatives, the other members of the LLT are Cory Pearson, Erin Lewis, Ian Calvert, Mariela Carvajal, Punsara Somerville and Gloria Q
