Recap of last month’s events/activity

The month of June has been notable for the dramatic change in weather conditions across the region and the country and the successful launch of the Canterbury Business Forum which was held in Christchurch at the Novotel Hotel on 14 June.

The event attracted 100 delegates from across the Canterbury region and proved to be a great networking opportunity for those who attended. Speaker highlights included Malcolm Johns (CEO Christchurch Airport), Rod Carr (Vice- Chancellor University of Canterbury) and Steve Anderson (CEO Foodstuffs SI). Based upon the success of the event, and the positive feedback received from members, this event will now become an annual fixture on the Canterbury events calendar.

Other major member events held over the last month included a presentation by the CFO of HW Richardson Group, Peter Heenan, to our Southland members. As CFO of one of the region's, and New Zealand’s most successful privately owned groups, Peter gave a very insightful presentation that covered the group’s extensive trading history and some of the key factors that have made it so successful. The event was hosted at the stunning Bill Richardson Transport Museum.

The final major member event of our financial year for the region was held in Dunedin on 21 June with the Secretary and Chief Executive of the Treasury Gabriel Marhlouf, presenting on Human Capital and the Living Standards Framework.  His presentation focussed on the major changes to labour market conditions brought about by globalisation and digitisation.

The month of June closes with the Christchurch Regional Office relocating to its new home at Leadership House, 245 Blenheim Road.   The new offices, which are shared with NZIM-Southern, offer conference and meeting facilities along with a member lounge that are able to be used by members.

Upcoming major member events

The annual Queenstown Conference is now open for registrations. This year’s event is themed Innovate.Create.Disrupt, and is being held on 14/15 September. Major speakers include Sir Ray Avery, Dominic Stephens, Sue Lindsay and TV Journalist Mike McRoberts.

Invercargill hosts its annual Milestone Gala Lunch and New Member Dinner in August which will recognise those members achieving significant membership milestones.  The Gala Dinner will also celebrate two new Fellows in the region, Peter Heenan and Peter Carnahan. The Gala Dinner is a highlight on the Southland members' event calendar and is always well attended.
