Find out what's been happening in the South Island

In brief

  • Recap of last month's events and activities
  • Upcoming major events

Recap of last month’s events/activity:

Although July has been a quieter one for major member events in the region it has been a busy one for Christchurch CA ANZ staff following their move into new offices in Leadership House at the end of June. The Christchurch staff have made the short move up Blenheim Road from their old offices which have been the home of the South Island Regional Centre since April 2011. The new offices include conference and meeting room facilities, as well as a member lounge, that will enable the Christchurch team to host future education and networking events in the new facilities.

It has also been a busy month for finalising Fellowship nominations for this year. Nominations closed in mid-July and this year 19 nominations have been received from all parts of the South Island.  A big thank you to the regional Local Leadership Teams and their respective fellowship sub-committees for the support they have provided with this year’s nominations.

The August-November period is the time of the year when we get to celebrate and recognise our new members, those achieving significant milestones, as well as our 2017 Fellowship recipients. Upcoming regional events will be held in Nelson and Blenheim, Christchurch, Ashburton, Invercargill and Cromwell.  What is evident with these upcoming events is the growth in recipient numbers, particularly in new members in the smaller regional centres.

Upcoming major member events

The annual Queenstown Conference is being held on 14/15 September. Major speakers include Sir Ray Avery, Dominic Stephens, Sue Lindsay and TV journalist Mike McRoberts. This year’s conference is again selling out fast with only limited seats still available.

Invercargill hosts its annual Milestone Gala Lunch and New Member Dinner on 17 August. The Gala Dinner will also celebrate two new Fellows in the region, Peter Heenan and Peter Carnahan. The Gala Dinner is a highlight on the Southland Members event calendar and is always well attended.

The Mid-South Canterbury Annual Gala Dinner is being held on 29 August at the Ashburton Hotel.

This year’s Christchurch New Member Ceremony will be held at the Christchurch Art Gallery on11 October. This will be the first occasion we have hosted this annual event at this iconic venue.
