Regional Manager Update

Introducing our Young Regional Advocate for South Australia and Northern Territory, Luke Kerins CA

Congratulations, Luke Kerins who has been named the Young Regional Advocate for South Australia and Northern Territory for his contribution to the accounting profession and commitment to his community as a Chartered Accountant.

Luke joins a pool of 12 Young Regional Advocates from across the CA ANZ regions nominated for the 2018 CA ANZ President's Prize, an award from CA ANZ recognising Chartered Accountants under 35. The winner of the award will receive a $1000 donation to a charity of their choice and be featured in Acuity magazine.

In his professional life, Luke joined the SA & NT Regional Council in 2016, served as the Vice-Chair of the SA Corporate Sector Advisory Panel and previously chaired the SA Young Chartered Accountants Panel.

Luke also assists with treasury and other committee roles at his football club and serves as the director of not-for-profit charity, Australian Sponsorship 4 African Kids, which raises funds to assist the education of underprivileged children in Ghana.

Luke is currently Group Finance Manager at LMS Energy.

Congratulations Luke for being named Young Regional Advocate for South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Audit partners or managers invited to participate in research study

A team of researchers led by Professor Paul Coram FCA at The University of Adelaide are conducting research on the effect of the new requirement to report Key Audit Matters on audit partners and managers' decision-making that will assist the post implementation review of this auditing standard. The case study should only take about 10 minutes and you can go into a draw to win an Ipad.

Deloitte hosted a panel discussion for our members on how organisations can help create real change in society for diversity and inclusion. Presenters included Deloitte representatives, both national and local, from their Diversity and Inclusion division.

AGM & Service Awards Ceremony – 17 October

Members attended the AGM where Regional Council members were elected and service awards were presented by SA/NT Regional Manager, Renee Feltrin FCA, SA/NT Regional Chair, Bruce Debenham FCA and Chartered Accountants ANZ Vice President, Stephen Walker FCA.

Bruce Debenham also provided the CA ANZ regional report update and an overall overview.

The event included networking over canapes and beverages and was a good opportunity to recognise both the ongoing contribution of our Regional Council and members with service of 10, 20, 25, 50 & 60 years.

Future of Business Series: Future of Sport Lunch –26 October

Members and their guests joined a lunch at The Playford Hotel where we reflected on the latest developments taking shape in the business of sport, particularly the rise of women's sport around the globe, eSports versus traditional sports, growth opportunities in new markets and cross-collaboration between codes.

The event and panel discussion were hosted by Channel 7 Sports presenter and reporter, Nicki Barnet and featured leaders of some of the SA's leading sporting organisations – Adelaide Football Club, Netball SA and South Australian Cricket Association.

Merit Awards Presentation – 1 November

In our second presentation for 2018, we celebrated and recognised the outstanding achievements of Chartered Accountants Program candidates who received a pass with merit for:

  • TAX118 - Taxation (Term 1, 2018)
  • AAA18 - Audit & Assurance (Term 1, 2018)
  • CAP118 - Capstone (Term 1 , 2018)
  • FIN218 - Financial Accounting & Reporting (Term 2, 2018)
  • MAAF218 - Management Accounting & Applied Finance (Term 2, 2018)

Awards were presented by SA/NT Regional Chair, Bruce Debenham FCA, with 29 merit awards presented, and of these six recipients received top of the state awards for their module.

Christmas Networking Event – 9 November

Members enjoyed an end of year networking event on the Barr Smith Lawns at The University of Adelaide to celebrate the start of the festive season. We brought the summer vibes to the event creating a village green atmosphere including food trucks, entertainment, games and lounging about on bean bags.

Northern Territory

Christmas Networking Event – 9 November

NT members kicked off the festive season, while showing their support of Foodbank NT, at Frankies Pizza Joint.

On the night SA/NT Regional Manager, Renee Feltrin FCA and SA/NT Regional Chair, Bruce Debenham FCA presented successful Achiever candidates with their certificate and welcome pack.

Through a few fun activities members raised $450, which has been donated to Foodbank NT.
