South Australia

Employment Evening: Tuesday 19 March

The 2019 Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Employment Evening was held at the Adelaide Oval and connected over 300 University Students with 20 employers and set them on their path to become future Chartered Accountants. Thank you to our long list of employers for supporting the event and spending time with the students.

Young CA Series: Not-for-Profit Board Experience Program Welcome Event: Wednesday 20 March

The launch of the 2019 Not-for-Profit Board Experience Program was held in March and included a fantastic bunch of Chartered Accountants eager to kick-start their Board careers. Good luck to our 2019 participants, look forward to hearing all about your experience in a few months' time. Thank you to all our not-for-profit organisations for participating in our 2019 program and providing the opportunity to our members.

Future of Business Series: Annual Economic Outlook Breakfast: Friday 22 March

Our Annual Economic Outlook Breakfast was held at The Playford in Adelaide where Ben Forrester of Macquarie Group shared his insights and expertise with just over 100 SA members and their guests.

Key take aways from the update included:

  • growth still on the horizon but slower than forecast
  • China's growth slowing, India is booming
  • some pain to come with Australia's property market
  • jobless rate to keep falling, wage growth to keep stalling.

Overall, some challenges to overcome but some opportunity to take advantage of. Thank you to Ben Forrester and Macquarie Group for sharing your insights and expertise.

Sharing Knowledge Series: Financial Planning and SMSF Update: Friday 5 April

2019 has certainly started off at a fast and furious pace with FASEA releasing its 7 final Legislative Instruments, the PC report being released and Justice Hayne handing down his final report on the Banking Royal Commission. Just over 80 members joined us to hear from Chartered Accountants ANZ Superannuation Leader Tony Negline and Chartered Accountant & Certified Financial Planner Bronny Speed as they provided an update on how it is all unfolding.

Sharing Knowledge Series: 2019 Tax Update: Monday 8 April

Chartered Accountants ANZ Australian Tax Leader Michael Croker provided a Tax Update session for members in Adelaide where he deciphered the key tax policy announcements in the latest federal budget, as well as highlighting the tax battle grounds on both sides of government as we enter the federal election race.

Ceremony Series: Merit Awards Presentation: Tuesday 9 April

Congratulations to all the South Australian merit award recipients for Term 3 2018 modules of the CA Program including Tax, Audit & Assurance and Capstone. In the top 5% of all who did the module and for those who received the top mark in South Australia for each module, a truly fantastic achievement.

Ceremony Series: Fellow Presentation Dinner: Thursday 11 April

The South Australian region honoured the Fellowship award at the 2019 South Australian Fellowship Presentation Dinner in Adelaide with just over 100 members in attendance.

The event was an opportunity for our Fellows to celebrate this status, and to welcome the newly appointed Fellows into this prestigious group.Newly admitted Fellows were:

We also honoured the outstanding achievements of Rick Allert AO FCA who was recently awarded the prestigious recognition of Life Membership, the highest honour we can bestow our members in recognition of their exceptional career achievements and contributions.

Northern Territory

Forum Series: Northern Territory Chartered Accountants Forum: 15 March

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand held the second Northern Territory Chartered Accountants Forum on 15 March 2019.

This year more than 120 people attended the event, which was an increase on the 2018 inaugural event with 80 in attendance.

The event was supported by Zoe McManus, Chair and her team of the Northern Territory Chartered Accountants (NTCA) with event delivery executed by the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand SA/NT Event Delivery Team based in Adelaide and Relationship Manager Nicole Campbell based in Darwin.

The forum kicked off with an official welcome to country from respected Elder Bilawara Lee. This followed with the opportunity to hear from a number of inspiring and insightful business leaders form business practice, commerce, government and the not-for-profit sectors.

Highlights included:

  • Jason Howe of the Department of Trade, Business and Innovation speaking on the current state of the Northern Territory economy and its future potential
  • A panel discussion on "Women in Business – A Reflection Through the Years" presented by Kristen Raison (High Heel Consulting), Sue Carthew (CDU) and Amy Page (Belly Bunker) in celebration of International Women's Day
  • Sarah Brown telling the story of Purple House (Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Aboriginal Corporation) and the work that they do in providing kidney dialysis to indigenous persons in remote communities through their self-contained dialysis units on the Purple Bus.

The event concluded with select wines and matching cheeses provided by Piper Collective.
