A big welcome to the Region's 24 new members to the designations of Chartered Accountants ANZ being 2 x AT's, 2 x ACA's and 20 x CA's. We look forward to formally recognising these career milestones at our premier events in 2018 being our Presidential Gala Dinners.
The professional development events focused on continuing to connect the membership, providing essential personal effectiveness content and technical knowledge to support our members in being trusted business advisors.
December and January event focus was about connecting the members and taking in local business successes in the hospitality industry that were at the heart of creating the best customer experience with environment, product and service.
The regions Local Leadership teams have commenced meeting for the 2018 and setting in place plans of areas of focus that will continue the important member advocacy.
It was great to see Caren Rangi FCA named as Hawke's Bay Leader of the Year at the 2017 Pan Pac Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce business awards, a very worthy recipient and acknowledgement of the amazing leadership Caren displays.
The conversations with Public Practice members continue with awareness on AML and it is encouraging to hear many members taking in the complimentary webinar series. It is great to be able to provide these members with information and provide details to the upcoming webinar series.
IR's upcoming roadshows are proving to be a welcomed addition for members to attend. These roadshows will focus on the next release in IR's Business Transformation project.

Business Insite: Good George
The 2018 events calendar kicked off with a Business Insite at Good George where over 40 members got to tour the brewery and sample some of their famous products.
2018 Waikato Regional Conference @ Business Summit
On 8th February members and the business community came together at Hamilton Gardens to hear some great speakers including John Shackleton that spoke on Mindfulness (the photo shows attendees being mindful of chocolate), the Future of Talent panel (Peter Vial FCA, Maxine Moana-Tuwhangai FCA, Paul Churchman CA and Michelle van Gaalen) and Hon. Grant Robertson, Minister of Finance at the Waikato Regional Conference @ Business Summit. Thank you to BDO for organising the afternoon sessions.
Running on Empty: A Journey to Recovery
Forty-three members enjoyed a very special breakfast event as the first local member event of 2018 was held on 13 February, with Bruce Lawrence CA, Finance Manager/ Company Secretary at Liquigas sharing his personal story of his journey with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) from bewildering diagnosis, the hidden critical aspects of living with a chronic illness to his road to recovery.

International Women's Day Lunch with Mavis Mullins

This year's International Women's Day theme is #PressforProgress. This event will bring together women to inspire, motivate and unite friends, colleagues and communities to join the global movement to progress gender parity; to think, act and be gender inclusive. Hear from Mavis Mullins, who started her career as a wool classer and shearing contractor and has gone on to be awarded Outstanding Māori Business Leader of the Year 2017 and inducted to the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame in 2017. International Women's Day Lunch

With speaker Vicki Semple, Tournament Director of the AIMS Games. The AIMS games is an iconic sporting event for intermediate school age students, bringing thousands of people to Tauranga for the week of the competition. The games have grown from 760 competitors representing 17 schools to become the biggest school sporting event in Australasia and twice the size of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in terms of athletes competing.
