Regional Chair Update

Hello again.

The year seems to be flying by as we are nearly into June.

With the Federal Election out of the way we can now proceed with some certainty with regard to our tax & business advice to our clients.

A special thanks is in order, to our advocacy team especially those involved in the $3000 tax deduction cap issue – Michael Croker, Julia Quinn, Liz Stamford & Sarah Davidson all well done. This is an example of our team providing the advocacy our members are looking for.

By the time you all read this voting will have closed on the changes to our Charter & By Laws. I hope that you all participated in this process by voting as maximising member involvement in these decisions is very important in member-based organisations.

On other issues:

  • Michael Croker's tax update session is available at the Store or just follow the prompts in the information below.
  • You may have noticed that material is being distributed in relation to the Winter Tax Schools which start with Brisbane on 1 July & finish with Rockhampton on 26 August.

Of special note this year is that the Townsville Winter Tax School which is happening 15-16 July will be at a 50% discount for all attendees irrespective of where a member actually resides. This concession is in place to recognise the impact of the floods on Townsville and as a gesture from our organisation to the members in the Townsville region. This should appeal to the accountant in all of us!

I would urge as many Townsville members as possible attend as well as members from other regions and interstate. I know that last year a number of interstate members did attend and then carried on with golf and a reef trip.

There is also a dinner & certificate presentation ceremony on at "The Ville" in Townsville Sunday night which I urge all members to attend. Please note you will have to register for this event separately to the Tax Schools.

At each of the other Tax Schools being conducted around our state please note the associated networking events and register for them separately. They are good value and represent great opportunities to mix with fellow members from your region and often elsewhere as well as talk to any Councillors in attendance about issues concerning our organisation and how it services your needs etc. Please also look out for any dinners associated with these events as there are some additional ones apart from Townsville.

A final word on the awarding of Fellowships. The deadline for nominations is the end of July. You should follow this link for further information on the process. It would be very satisfying to see a number of new Fellows coming from Regional Queensland this year.

Cheers

Penny Ellenger
Queensland Regional Manager

Coming to a location near you!

Our annual Tax & Super Schools are once again running throughout regional Queensland centres, and once again they are to be facilitated by our resident Tax guru James McPhedran. Register now for your fix of all things new in Tax and Super.

This year in support of the Townsville economy, we are encouraging those who might be interested in attending the Townsville School to register and take advantage of a 50% discount – and to perhaps make a weekend of it up on Magnetic Island, take in a visit to Reef HQ and enjoy the many attractions Townsville has to offer.

Schools are also running as in previous years in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Mackay & Cairns – hope to see you there!
